View Full Version : Scolding pets
Pebbles 09-25-2007, 12:13 PM Do you scold yours? Do you think they understand why you are http://stat.livejournal.com/img/mood/ibrad/erked.gif with them?
Or do they give you the http://smileys.sur-la-toile.com/repository/Grands_Smileys/ange.gif face?
We scold our ratties and I think they know when they are in trouble because they'll cower in the corner and look oh so innocent. I feel bad when I scold them and dh tells me that's why they don't listen when I get :reallymad.
Kristen 09-25-2007, 12:18 PM I do. I don't always feel good about doing it, but they definitely know what's going on. Once my voice changes to 'scold' mood, the guilty one always goes to the crate - never fails. If I don't know who did something - like raiding the trash - scolding them always ferrets out the guilty party!
smerf 09-25-2007, 12:22 PM well we all know how pitbulls can be..i just usually hit his nose if he tries to bite me in a playing way..or tell him NO..
harrisonsdream 09-25-2007, 12:23 PM i try to scold him but he just runs behind the couch and hides or rolls on his back and gives me this look like "mommy i'm sorry don't get mad"
Kiser'sBabe 09-25-2007, 12:30 PM I do, they might not understand the words but they know the tone in your voice.

:lol
Yeah Tha Woosnort knows he's in trouble before I ever even have to scold him. He will hide, or come shaking and tail btwn the legs to tell me he's sorry before I even find the pee or poo he left for me.

Berkley 09-25-2007, 12:41 PM I do they know the tone in my voice and they hand their heads and put down their tail and look OH so sorry
USCGBoxerMom 09-25-2007, 12:42 PM The Boxers are VERY emotional, you even look at them wrong and thier faces get all droppy and slink off to their cages. They HATE getting yelled at.
Shep's Wife 09-25-2007, 12:42 PM We try, but they are so spoiled that they get away with almost everything.
Especially the dogs, they get this guilty face and pout :giggle
VinnysGirl 09-25-2007, 01:19 PM My girls know when they are in trouble. Maycie is still learning quite a bit, but Sophie will get this HORRIBLE sad face and go curl up on her bed and sulk for a while.. then she'll come over and put her head in your lap and look up at you with this HORRIBLE PITIFUL face.
Maycie is a different story.. she's a little butt... you tell her no and she barks back at you! LOL!! I've got a backtalker! LOL!!!

Maybe it's a Hawaiian dog thing - our younger dog we adopted in Hawaii from the shelter is a BIG back talker! I'm always saying, "Don't you talk back to me!" and dh laughs at me. :lmao
*Sarah* 09-25-2007, 01:30 PM :hystericlaugh yeah right lol my cats are the bosses here, they scold us :giggle If we arent petting them when they want it, we know and they are very picky about the litter box. They will come annoy the crap out of me til i change it

Yup!!! Must be.. Sophie did it for a little while when she was younger, but not so much anymore! LOL!! But Miss Maycie is a force to be reckoned with! LOL!!
They definitely make my day more interesting... like my 545am wake up call this morning... :mumble
SezzySue 09-25-2007, 02:08 PM i do. in fact i did just last night. rory peed on the carpet even though i just let her out. i was so mad. i told her to come time and time again and she wouldn't so i spanked her and made her sit outside. then i let her com back to the room.
Miss B Hav'n 09-26-2007, 06:48 AM Yes, we use verbal reprimands with the kitties and they DO understand.

That is so true! In fact dh told bruce this morning to get out of the bedroom...he didn't even really yell. When we came out to the living room he was sulking in his crate. I told dh he better tell bruce he can come out, he thinks your mad at him. They are very emotional...but I love it!
Ashnbri 09-26-2007, 10:04 AM I just shake my finger at them and tell them bad and alex definetly gets the idea and he goes to his cage and lays down but bell does not care about it.
lovestosing 09-26-2007, 09:18 PM My dog is too honest and puts herself to bed when she does something wrong. LOL.
My cat on the other hand is a stinker!! He constantly talks back to us when we tell him not to do something. Sometimes he whines and complains. Sometimes when he gets too wild, we have to put him on a time out in the bathroom for about 10 minutes so he can calm down. I have no idea what was in the water when he was born!
leftover 09-26-2007, 09:27 PM I constantly berate Napoleon about his weight, and cut him down everychance I get.
... I tell him that he'll never get a girlfriend if he doesn't quit eating like he does.. :no
OMG it's Andrea! 09-26-2007, 09:30 PM i scold my cats and i'm pretty sure they know...at least, i hope they do.
