Does anyone know if I can sign for our house on post with a regular POA? When I went and put our name on the list for housing, the lady told me I had to have a POA with a DFAS clause to take possession, but I could put us on the waiting list with the other. When housing called and offered us the house, the lady I spoke to said I just needed the regular one. On Friday I spoke to another lady, who said I needed the DFAS one. DH is on a mission, but through Rear-D, he was able to be flown to an FOB to get a new one drawn up..but the lady said they couldn't take an emailed one without the seal. I'm supposed to sign for the house Oct 3 and move in Oct 9..and now I'm very afraid the snail mail won't make it here in time:(

I have one on the way, just hope it gets here in time, since I already gave notice. DH said the guy at legal told him I didn't need one, and that it was stupid to give me "that much power". Luckily he didn't listen, I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I didn't have a special one for housing. I signed all our paper work while dh was on deployment. :shrug

it depends on the housing office.. ours required a specific POA to sign in or out of housing.

you're required here to have a special one so you can change the allotments

Most, but not all housing offices require a "special" POA to sign the papers.. how confusing though to have two different answers as to what you need.. :pray that the one gets there soon... just in case

I just had a regular POA. But my dh had went and signed up for housing right before he left on deployment and spoke to them about the situation. At the time we were not PPV so we didn't have to do any allotments or anything.

We're moving into Great Lakes housing when we get restationed this coming spring and I asked the same question about POA.

I was told by the relocation rep that all I needed was a general POA. I even clarified by asking if I needed one specific to that housing and she told me no.

Maybe I'll get a specific one just incase. :thinking

Might be better to be safe than sorry. I got two conflicting answers from the same office, and DH was told by legal that I didn't need it. I sign for housing on Oct 3, I'll ask again then and let y'all know.

Well, for Ft Bragg housing anyway, it turns out I did need the special POA~ for the reason that with the privatized housing, you need to authorize the beginning of an allotment, for them to take your BAH. Yay, for reard and his commanders for actually coming through for one, and sending him to a camp with legal, so he could get it made for me.

I didn't have a special one. I did it with a general POA.

Sorry you have to go through that one. Must be different per branch. I had no trouble signing for our housing with out a POA.

Good luck to you!!

It worked out great. Luckily, if I tell DH I need something, he's super anal about getting it done. So I got the POA I needed, and moved into housing on the ninth, and am loving life. I think just, every base/branch is different, and it depends if if it's government, or if the privatized housing has taken over.
