AshleyReida 09-25-2007, 03:42 PM My son's school just called me and it sounds like he has a bladder infection. The only problem is his tricare is still in texas where his father is stationed. he hasnt had time to switch it up here where my hubby is stationed and they wont let me do it because i'm no longer one of his dependents. soo i have their tricare cards. can i still go to a doctor here and have it covered or do i have to pay for it. and where? an actual doctor or the ER on post?? what about medicine??? will it be covered???
Berkley 09-25-2007, 03:43 PM Yes you can go to the ER on post. If you have time however I would call the tricare office and let them know what's going on and that way they can tell you exactly where you can go.
AshleyReida 09-25-2007, 03:55 PM how do i get ahold of a tricare office??? when i was married to their father i never delt with all this -now i dont know what to do-i dont want my poor little boy to be in pain
*Sarah* 09-25-2007, 03:57 PM just take him to the post doc and give them his sponsors number. I had to take my kids to the doc in NC and we were in LA and there were no probs. You will need to get him his own ID card though in the future, at least i had to for mine.. good luck
heather679 09-25-2007, 04:00 PM You can either call Tricare and get an authorization, or be seen by any ER, regardless of region. If you go to an ER, you do have to call them within 24 hours of being seen to tell them.
AshleyReida 09-25-2007, 04:00 PM even though he's only 6?? i thought they got one when they were 10.
AshleyReida 09-25-2007, 04:02 PM ok i am a retard i cant get on post yet withouth DH because i dont have my id quite yet and he works all day....will i have problems off post or should i get dh to take some time off to take me on post??? or maybe i can ask my friend-she has a car with a sticker and she can take me
*Sarah* 09-25-2007, 04:02 PM even though he's only 6?? i thought they got one when they were 10.
his sponor info is different than yours so yes. My kids are 7, 5 and 4 and they have all had one for 2 years now. I am divorced and remarried and they are both military. It makes everything go so much smoother at the dr and pharmacy
AshleyReida 09-25-2007, 04:03 PM call the ER or call tricare?? im assuming tricare.

AshleyReida 09-25-2007, 04:06 PM okay so maybe i can get him to go this evening then-agh i hate the thought of sitting in the ER all night but i dont want my little boy hurting
heather679 09-25-2007, 04:09 PM call the ER or call tricare?? im assuming tricare.
You call Tricare
*Sarah* 09-25-2007, 04:11 PM let the father do it. It will be easier. just make sure he has their Birth Certificates just incase. They should already be enrolled in DEERS so he probably wont need them
AshleyReida 09-25-2007, 04:11 PM thanks guys...i called dh and i guess we're gonna try to go tonight when he gets home
AshleyReida 09-25-2007, 04:13 PM let the father do it. It will be easier. just make sure he has their Birth Certificates just incase. They should already be enrolled in DEERS so he probably wont need them
they're enrolled in DEERS i believe (isnt that the same thing as tricare?) so do they not need pictures for them? or should he wait until they're down to see him for christmas to do it?

If you are gonna do it from where you are, you are gonna need a POA saying that you are allowed to get their ID cards. Talk to your id card section and ask.and talk to your ex about getting the POA, its can be a specific one with just that on there. I would reccomend getting it done as soon as possible.
They do need the kids there to issue the ID cards tho
AshleyReida 09-25-2007, 04:24 PM well they're going to see him in december so i will have him do it then! thanks though i didnt know all that!
*Sarah* 09-25-2007, 04:32 PM just so you know, you may encounter problems at the doctors office with your name change, it took them forever to get mine fixed... and then when we moved here, i was still in the system under my ex's name... and its been 3 years.
also they may give you a bunch of crap about your kids not having id cards yet...FYI
AshleyReida 09-25-2007, 05:06 PM :sigh sounds wonderful:arg
