Traci 09-27-2007, 07:09 AM IMO I would not live in Norfolk or Portsmouth. i would try Va Beach, Chesapeake or Suffolk. I am in Newport News next to Williamsburg. I am from the area in grew up in Chesapeake. missyanne24 09-27-2007, 08:14 AM I live in Hampton. There are good areas and bad areas, so if you need someone to go check out a place for ya, lemme know. I would start my search at apartmentguide.com I live in Carybrook Merrimac Townhouses. It's not a WONDERFUL neighborhood, but the townhouses are big and they're $955 a month for a 4 BR townhouse. It's a pretty kid-friendly neighborhood and the drive to the bases isn't too far (depending on which base your DF is at...that's a BIG thing to consider in where your apt will be.) My DH is at Naval Station Norfolk right on the other side of the water. If he's stationed at Oceana or Little Creek, I would stay over there. (Think Virginia Beach). Good luck, and if you need anything, lemme know. :) christymichelle 09-27-2007, 08:50 AM my apt is in va beach, i like it alot. i pay $744 for mine Nicole1788 09-27-2007, 08:54 AM I live in norfolk. We live in the oceanview/wiloughby area, its nice and quite and right outside gate 4 of the base. We are renting a house though. Its all hit and miss with each city here. I lived off little creek and military highway in a 1 bedroom for 705$...the apts were crap and there was a dead person on my sidewalk and a homeless person by the apt entrance. dotb182 09-27-2007, 08:56 AM Well it depends on where you want to live, and how much your willing to spend. I wouldn't live in portsmouth or on the peninsula ( although some areas are really nice, I just don't know a lot about it ...) Ghent in norfolk is REALLY nice, and is the only part of norfolk i'd live in. Va Beach, and Ches. are the nicest IMO AG2Wife 09-27-2007, 09:48 AM WE lived in Newport News for 3 years and Va Beach for 2 years. We lived NN much better than VB! What ever city you decide to live in, check with the local PD for crime stats (sometimes they are listed on the web) There are certain parts of every city you will want to stay out of. I am with Virginia Beach, b/c we live here. If you come to the beach - PM me I can help. The only ones I know downtown are the ones right next to the USS Wisconsin. I do not know what they are called, by Ghent, I do not know what they charge, they are nice from the outside and the view of the waterfront from there is probably to die for. I don't recommend da beach. Sucks to me personally. USNIwife 09-28-2007, 12:06 AM I live in norfolk. We live in the oceanview/wiloughby area, its nice and quite and right outside gate 4 of the base. We haven't had that at the beach. So knock on wood - it's sounding way better than that situationwith the dead guy and the homeless person. Argh! |
