gwen and buddy get along great. they don't fight or anything, but the only problem is she tries to play too rough with him. and a big great dane, trying to paw at a little cocker spaniel does not go over well. buddy has been trampled, pinned, and had his head, neck, and back in her mouth so many times to play, and he does not like to play like that, but she just doesn't learn from his signals to her. i've tried yelling, it startles her, but doesn't do much. i've tried to get her with the hose when she does it, but i can never get to the hose fast enough and she doesn't do it when i have it in my hand, and i tried putting pennies in an empty soda can and shaking it to scare her when she does it, and it worked a little bit, but for the most part, just pissed off the neighbors dog. :lol
so, any ideas? buddy's a tough boy and can take it, but it's so pitiful to hear him cry like he does, (even though i know it's all drama) i know she's young and wants to play around, but how can i get her to play a little nicer with buddy?

Brownie is like that too. Because she's big, she doesn't understand that she can't be as rough with littler dogs. She doesn't try to hurt them, but a whimper has come once or twice. We just tell her to be easy and when she gets to rough, she has to come sit by Dh or I and calm down.
I really don't have any advice, just know that you aren't alone. :D

:yes that will work wonders..my lab gets that way when we go to the dog park and he is bugging another dog after that he leaves that certain dog alone. Or maybe if you wear her out some other way she will be too tired to bug your other one

I say a time out. Sophie has to go in time out when she plays too hard with Maycie and same goes for Maycie. Sometimes they just don't know they are being so rough. As Maycie is getting bigger she's holding her own more, but she's still a puppy and Sophie is still twice as big as she is. :goodluck Nothing like two fighting sibling dogs huh! LOL!!!! Mine drag each other around by the collar! LOL!!!

well i want them to play. i want them to get close, but i'm just afraid cause of the size difference buddy could get hurt. there was the one time we went out and got him children's asprine, but have only used it once. he doesn't act like he's hurt anymore when she topples over him. she has learned to play nice with him in the house, but hasn't figured out yet that the same goes for the way. :lol well, i suppose it has only been like, 3 weeks. i just wish she'd listen to his crying and his growling and take a hint. isn't that what those signals are for? to warn? oh well. guess i'll give it some more time and try the time out. but when i reach for her outside, she thinks it's play and runs from me. blah, gotta work on that too. :lol

Anabell does that to alex all the time..she just doesn't listen when he starts growling or crying.. so we have to verbally tell her to cut it out...they get out of hand alot..the time out actually doesn't discourage them from playing it just gives them both a few minutes to relax and hopefully calm down. Usually after we do it bell calms down and she lays down for a bit until alex is ready to play again.
