View Full Version : Ok SD ladies..
MelissaMc424 10-02-2007, 11:09 AM I need some ideas on things to do out here.. (I know I know, the zoo, balboa park, and the beach) my dad will be here and he could care less about the beach (putting it nicely.. you guys wouldn't want to hear what an old school TX cowboy has to say about the CA beach..:lmao) DH is planning on attempting to take leave.. and so far about all we have on our itenerary for the 4 days Dad and stepmom will be here is a trip to Julian, and trick or treating with DD, and a trip to old town. Any other ideas???
What about Legoland or something up in that area? It is a little bit of a drive but we think it is fun for all ages.

Maybe.. but he's not the amusement park type either. I've really wanted to check Legoland out though. So SeaWorld and a trip to Disney are out.. (he specifically told me they were) I'm seriously thinking the most kid friendly thing he'll be agreeable to is the Zoo..
JulieM 10-02-2007, 11:39 AM How about a football game...will the Chargers be in town? Just a thought...
Rileysmom 10-02-2007, 11:42 AM The museums and/or walking around Balboa Park
This is where Tooters and I go to the beach a lot, and it has beautiful views if you hike/drive up to the top! http://www.torreypine.org/

He's not even a football fan.. had they come out a few weeks earlier we could have gone to a Padre's game. He likes baseball. It's hard to plan stuff that he'll be into..

I'm thinking we may take advantage of the free Tuesday museum at Balboa. My stepmom's excited about going to old town.. Dad's just stubborn..

Possibly the Midway.. DH really liked it when he was there last month.

IMO, that sounds like enough to do over 4 days. :shrug But that's just me. I hate running all over the place when people visit. I like to have at least one "down" day where we just go to the park.

I have a feeling something's gonna get veto'd so I need backup ideas...

rosebud* 10-02-2007, 12:52 PM wow SD has a lot of farmers markets. ( i did a quick peek...) i also used like city search to find things that are family friendly.kwim
Dragonfly76 10-02-2007, 12:53 PM The girls and I really enjoy going to Birch Aquarium in La Jolla. Not a lot of walking, some really cool animals to check out and the views from the outside are amazing! Not to mention it's pretty inexpensive.

Yeah.. Dad's not gonna be into typical "CA" things.. I just know how he is. He also has no idea how traffic and everything is out here, so it's definately going to be interesting. He thinks this isn't that big of a state, since it's not as big as TX.. he's already asked how far wine country, san fran and hollywood are. I told him it would kill an entire day just to go to hollywood, and even then it's kind of a let down.. (it was for me at least, when we visited 8 yrs. ago)

Its great to go to. And eat at the Hamburger Factory there. Its just a great little "country park" the train is great the people are very sweet...we love it...and DH being from a little country town loves it too cause it kinda reminds him of home. The Old Poway park that is attached is just beautiful.

Oh man, they'd love that, but they come in on a Sunday afternoon and leave on Thurs. morning.
I'm thinking Dad would like the railroad museum at Balboa. So maybe we'll do that and hang out in the park one day.. (Camryn loves the fountain!)
Daydreamer 10-02-2007, 04:08 PM My mother and I went on the San Diego Trolley tour last year and it was a lot of fun. YOu can get on and off of the trolley all day that rides throughout San Diego and takes you to diff. places including Horton Plaza, Seaport VIllage, Balboa Park, Coronado, etc. and it is a narrated tour as well. it was very fun and very intetesting to learn about the city.
