Do you start night time potty training the same time you're day time potty training, or do you start night time potty training later after they gotten the hang of day time potty training?

If you night time potty train later, do you have them wear pull ups or diapers to bed?

DD still wears overnight pullups to bed. She's almost completely daytime trained, but it's gonna be a while before she's ready for night time training.

well I posted about this about my son about a week ago maybe and he still isnt night time trained yet and still wears pull ups at night. Every child is different and some can be night time trained the same time they are day time trained but you wont know until you try. What you probably could do is to start out with your child wearing pull ups but telling them that they still have to go to the potty but unless they can wake up on their own during the middle of the night to go potty I would suggest having your child wear pull ups for however long is necessary for them to be night time trained. try just cutting back on fluids after dinner and making sure your child goes potty before going to bed.

we tried waking our son up before we went to bed and that did not work to well. he didnt want to wake up and my hubby had to carry him to the potty and then he was tired the next day so we have just decided to not wake him up and just cut back his fluids and keep him in a pull up. I think when he is ready we will know.

I just wondered if I was setting her back by keeping her in diapers at night. We're keeping her in her crib until she's 3 (hopefully) which might hinder nighttime potty training. I just didn't know if I was supposed to do them at the same time or not.

I didn't have to do the two potty trainings, mine picked it up pretty quick. I also waited until they weren't peeing at night any more which meant they were in diapers a bit longer ( except for youngest dd she was not quite three when she was trained and hasn't had an accident at night lucky i guess)

oh so she isnt even 3 yet right? well do you have the type of bed that can convert into a toddler bed. thats what we had for Robbie when we first started to day time train him. I dont know why that boy wont wake up at night like anytime after midnight to go potty. I mean he sometimes will wake up before we go to bed on his own but if he is really really tired he wont wake up at all after we put him to bed and this child will be 5 on the 15th. so naturally we would like to see him night time trained. I just think he falls into such a deep sleep that his body cant wake him up if he needs to go. Heck we didnt even start potty training Robbie until he was 2 1/2 - 3 years old. He was pretty easy to day time train too. I mean he does great at naptime wearing his big boy undies but for some reason at night he doesnt.

I was like that Cat, when I was younger. :blush I wet the bed for a while because I slept too soundly to get up when I would have to pee. some kids just can't feel the urge at night.

She just turned 2. Our crib DOES convert into a toddler bed. BUT we're not going to convert it until she's 3. We have a crib tent on the crib so she can't climb out of her crib-we still have to get her out of it. We just don't want her to get up and get into things while we're sleeping. Especially since we removed the latch in her doorknob that keeps the door closed (she kept locking herself in her room). We don't want her wandering the house while we're sleeping. Our house is childproof, but they're also smart and learn how to get around those things (like moving chairs to climb on the counters). Safety concerns are what's making us keep her in her crib as long as possible. We'd probably keep her in her crib longer than 3 if we thought she'd be ok with it and it wasn't too much trouble getting her in and out of her crib, and we didn't think she was too old.

I know, we're extra cautious.

I really have no clue about potty training and it just occured to me that I didn't know if she was supposed to be potty trained at night at the same time as day time training.

well some parents dont mind doing the training separately. I know I dont mind at all. I know there are some that do mind but I dont think it would be that difficult. But like rosebud (michelle ) said there are just some kids who sleep so soundly that they cant wake up to go potty at night and it just comes with maturity or age. My oldest son was like that and he eventually learned to wake up at night to go potty so I am not worried about it.

oh believe me I understand about keeping her safe. You could one of 2 things. Either you can daytime train her now and she how she does and then if you are willing to wake up in the middle of the night to go wake her up to go at night you could do that too. Or you can just get her daytime trained now and work on the night training once she is old enough and you feel safe enough for her to be in her toddler bed. the choice is really up to you. Since she cant really get out of bed at night you would have to go and wake her up during the night if you wanted her to stay dry all night.
