I'm not really worried about Peanut Allergies with DD. But I have been avoiding giving her peanut butter due to the choking aspect. I forgot to ask the pediatrician at her 2 year visit about this.

How old were your kids when you started giving them peanut butter without worrying about them having trouble swallowing it? I'm talking like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Along these lines, how old were ur kids when u started giving them celery? Like celery with peanut butter in it (a favorite childhood snack).

The trick is to use a VERY thin layer of peanut butter. DD started eating PB&J sandwiches around 13 months, but my father (in typical grandparent fashion) let her have a piece of a Reese's cup when she was about 8 months old.

And in typical new mom fashion...I freaked out. :lol

DD's doctor OK'd her to have peanut butter around the 1 year mark.

Val had PB&J around 13 months too. Now, she likes to eat PB on a spoon. :yes I let her, figure since she wont eat my chicken anymore, she'll get some protein! Only "meat" she'll eat is shrimp. :no weirdo.

Unless you have a family history of allergies and she eats most foods fine, I think she's more than fine to eat PB AND celery too. Val loves both.

with celery I know my dr liked for the kids to have molars.. with PB it was at one year, usually a nice thin layer is enough to keep choking from being a factor.. also i always cut the sandwich in squares so that they aren't trying to eat the whole thing like someone is stealing it. ( my son does that :no)

that they aren't trying to eat the whole thing like someone is stealing it.

That's hilarious. LMAO

Thanks for the advice. I've been dying to give DD PB&J sandwiches and peanut butter celery for lunch for something different, but have been too afraid. I'm going to try a sandwich tomorrow spread thin and cut in squares. THANKS!

Johnny just turned 2 and I've been giving him peanut butter for a few months. I make sure when I put on the peanut butter it is light. I don't cake it on. He also already eats celery with peanut butter. He tends to lick the peanut butter off and then proceed with the celery. It is quite cute the way he does it. Breanna was around 2 when she got peanut butter for the first time. She was probably older than 2. I was paranoid with her. I was always afraid the slightest thing would hurt her. I can't remember how old she was when she tried celery but she is 6 now and still hates it so that is not a snack I dealt with with her.
