why would you need to have two eye exams for? I would think you would just need one exam period and then just have 2 prescriptions one for glasses and one for contacts.

Usually you can get an all in one exam that is covered. what you can't do is get one exam now and another in 6months. tricare only covers one a year. ( i think)

Tricare only covers an eyeglass exam. Contact exams tricare will not cover. I just had mine done last week :)

Cat- there are two different exams bc in a contact exam they take different measurements of the contours of your eyes to fit you in the right size/shap contacts. Eye glass exams are just for the power of your eyeglass lenses. :thumbsup

well my hubby had one exam for both his contact lenses and his glasses. the exam was mainly for his contacts but they also gave him a prescription for his eye glasses. but he had worn his contacts for awhile he just had to go back for a follow up exam. But we paid for that out of pocket. so maybe tricare wouldnt cover that kind of exam like my hubby had.

yup. they cover 1 annual exam (I think it's a $70/75 dollar cap?? Don't quote me on that) There's a claim form that your eye doctor files on your behalf....Insurance does not cover contacts or glasses. (You have to pay out of pocket). - - Unless, somebody knows different? I've always paid out of pocket for contacts and my glasses. Although I wear contacts everyday and only my glasses out in town for emergencies or at home, to give my eyes a 'rest'.
