so both were doing really well--eating all their food right when i put it down. but now, gwen hardly eats anything, and i'm lucky if buddy takes two bites. i feel sooo bad just taking it away from them and saying "tough, if you don't eat now, you don't get" cause gwen so desparetly need to put on weight. but i can't leave the food out cause currently they're both on different kinds of food and i don't want one eating the other yet. plus, i don't want gwen bending down so far and eating buddies food from the floor.
any suggestions?

I wound up just giving both of them the same food, oreo would eat kenzy's food and kenzy ate oreo's food. didn't matter if we feed them at regular times or not. :shrug can buddy not eat what Gwen eats?

well, we try to get buddy to eat first, so the gwen knows he's the dominate dog. and it worked for a while. and once we're out of buddy's current food, they'll be eating the same food. but even if i try to feed them at separate times, there's no garentee that they're gonna eat then, ya know? and i don't want them to free feed.

maybe mix in the two foods together so that they are both getting the same thing. you should actually feed them together to let them know you are in charge, there should be no "dominance" between the two dogs, only you two being dominate over all. maybe just feed them in different spaces

hmm feeding them the same thing is the only solution I have. I switched Lilah over to what Emmie is eating because it's a lot better then the crap she was being fed. Right now they can both eat the Science Diet puppy food. Once they are both over a year I'll be feeding Lilah the large breed formula and Emmie the small breed formula. I also leave thier food out for them to eat as they want. I'm going to get Lilah a tall elevated feeder which Emmie wont be able to eat from when they are eating different food :lol

well, gwen has an evated feeder. something that's pretty nessecary for danes. but buddy can still put his front paws up on it and get in it. not to mention gwen can bend down and get his food.
as far as dominance goes, well, buddy mounted her for the first two days, and hasn't since. and i was always told that there is always a heirarchy yes, dh and i are the head of the pack, but then it still goes down. now that i think about it. buddy acted very dominate toward her for the first couple days, but now he doesn't even make a noise when she comes near him while he's eating.
i suppose it'll be easier when they're both on the same food.

Really you shouldn't try and make them who you feel is dominate, but let nature take it's course even if Gwen becomes the "dominate" one. trying to force the issue can lead to problems. maybe buddy no longer feels like he should be "dominate" . :shrug

i thinking they both know their place by now. infact, neither of them act more dominate than the other.
where as my friends' dogs...you can definitly tell which one is in charge. :lol
