View Full Version : Boxermom... Jennygirl 10-04-2007, 08:27 AM do you believe in holistic vet medicine? USCGBoxerMom 10-04-2007, 08:30 AM To a point yes. Depends on what it is. Obviously there are somethings that require antibiotics and standard care because they can not be cured without them. ETA...I do belive in vaccines. Jennygirl 10-04-2007, 08:33 AM I like the holisitic approach to some things...But like you i agree it cant cure everything. Our dr practices that and does accunpuncture for animals too, but she uses holisitcs on here and it doesnt cure her... I was wondering if you used that on your pups since you said they have allergies USCGBoxerMom 10-04-2007, 09:33 AM For the Boxers they get daily: Cranberry tablets Acidophilus Tablets Omega 3 & Omega 6 High Quality dog food - I was feed Flint River Ranch, but can't get that here so I use Blue Buffalo now. Our dog food selection is very small here compared to CA. They also get organic apple cider vinegar their water bowls. There are times when their allergies are very severe, certain grasses, airborne, touch type allergies and then I resort to Benedryl. ETA - I use this approach for them because I know allergies will be a life long thing we will have to deal with. I don't want them to be on steriods or antihistamines for their entire life, so the addition of the supplements has helped tremendously. I also have a 14 year old dog that I have used the same treatments on and she healthy as a horse. DH and I were going to use that but we like the origien and the evo... Your approach would be loved by our vet...She wishes that more people would for approaches like that then just taking hydroxizine! USCGBoxerMom 10-04-2007, 10:33 AM EVO makes Maggie sick to her stomache, I have not heard of the Origien. Blue is a good food and they have tolerated it very very well so we will stick with that for now. I have seen a VAST improvement in our dogs since starting the regimine. Their ears still flush (but that is a Boxer trait too) and occasionally they chew on thier paws during certain grasses blooming, but their coats and skin are beautiful. Our vet totally backs our regimine she is glad we are not resorting to drug treatment. She is a firm believer in not doing something that is not necessary until you have exhausted your options. I did TONS of research on the holistic approach to allergies before I started this and consulted with her to make sure we were giving the appropriate dosages. Jennygirl 10-04-2007, 10:53 AM I heard EVO used to not be a good food but they have totally redone it...Our vet was amazed at the changes they made...We just mix them cause their food is so pricey we want to make it extend for as long as we can (we pay a 100 bucks for two bags of food)... We had a client that had demodex and our vet told her to use some oils on it and it really helped out. I think doing that for things like allergies is a good choice that way they arent living their lives medicated. |
