Ok... so we found out that my husband needs to go on AKO and fill out a "wish list" as to where we would like to be stationed after he finishes AIT. People keep telling me not to even worry about it because they don't care what you put, you're going to get what you get. Well...pretty much everyone here has been getting Korea...and we DO NOT want that! So I said we should look at where the MOS is most needed and list those places and maybe we'd get one. Here's the list of where his MOS is most needed...what should we list? Do any of you know anything about any of these places? We would like a duty station that we can live together and one that is not a "rapid deploy base".
Ft. Carson
Ft. Lewis
Ft. Bragg (Is this airborn? my hubby is not airborn)
Ft. Huachuca
Ft. Gordon (where we are now)

and then overseas
Hawaii
Korea (don't want this)
Germany

Any advice??

Honestly it doesn't look like there is much to do there in AZ, you are at least an hour away from Tucson.. here is the citydata for Huachuca city. http://www.city-data.com/city/Huachuca-City-Arizona.html

doesn't look like there is a lot.

My husband is in Huachuca right now. It's actually really pretty there, and not nearly as hot as I expected it would be. The base is in the mountains which probably helps.

It's small, but that's not always a bad thing.

Good luck. My husband has been in over 10 years and is still waiting on getting a base off of his dream sheet.

Huachuca is in Sierra Vista, which means you'll be in Tucson alot, cause Sierra Vista is....blah. Not much to do there. Sorry to be a bubble burster

Dh and I wanted to go to ft carson. Its so pretty there. Oh and yes fort bragg is airborne but that doesnt mean that there isnt something he can do there. Plus if they put him in an airborne unit, the unit will send him to the school after a while. that is what happend to my DH. Let me just add also, we had ft. lewis, ft sam and the other base in elpaso on our list and we got italy :lol usually they just put you where they need you

I loved Hawaii, and even though we're navy, we lived up on the Army Air Field next to Schofield Barracks. I really liked it there, and would go back in a heartbeat!

Ft. Carson SUCKS. I lived there for a while when I was little, EW.

Boring, boring, cold, boring, cold. :D

We just filled out the same stuff, but they told us there are only three places DH can go because of his MOS and airborne, so we'll see...I'll make sure to :xfingers for both of us from now on! :hugs

Honestly, the best base, we, or any of our friends have been to, was Ft Richardson Alaska. The area is great, the units are small, locals are friendly, pay is great with COLA.
