mary79 10-04-2007, 03:24 PM I was wondering from your personal experience, how long did it take you to get a house there. How many bedrooms do you have?
We are thinking of putting in for housing there when we move in April. The waiting list says for a 3 bedroom its 2-3 months. Alot of people I know have gotten a house within a week there. I was just wondering what everyone Else's experience was.
Donna 10-04-2007, 03:26 PM it took us 6 months but that was in 2003 and they were still remodeling. right now it's about a month cause of the added weight time for them to install the central A/C
We got here June 5th and moved in Aug 7th.
We were and still ARENT happy with the condition the house was given to us in. But with a newborn we dont really have a choice :biting
Brandi 10-04-2007, 04:22 PM We waited a little over a month for our 4 bedroom. It was mostly b/c of the A/C units being installed though, I think. They should have more finished by the time you get out here so hopefully you won't have to wait that long!
I have a 4 bedroom and we got it 2 days after we got to San Diego. That was pure luck, it would of been 2 weeks, but the person they offered this one to didn't want it cause it wasn't in the cul de sac area of the street. Oh well, his loss our gain.
NavySweetheart 10-07-2007, 03:01 PM It took us 6 months on the waiting list, but we were waiting for a 2 bedroom (no kids). But I just met someone who doesn't have any kids and she got a 3 bedroom house after calling the housing office ONCE. So 3 bedroom houses are most likely the quickest to get into. They are nice too.
mary79 10-07-2007, 11:10 PM Thanks Lady's!! I hate having to wait for housing. We are still debating on whether we want to rent housing out on town ,or if we are going to buy a house ,or just get Navy housing.
I have family I can stay with until a house opens up,but I will need to get Jacob into school. He will only have 2 months left of school. Maybe I will just have to home school him for the last 2 months.
CoffeeGirl 10-12-2007, 08:29 PM nevermind
mackenziesmommy 10-13-2007, 05:57 PM we got a call within 2 weeks...we LOVE it...no problems...we were offered a 4 bedroom to take right away, but by the time she tried to get it someone else had already claimed it so we got a 3 bedroom...it took us almost 1 1/2 months to move in because the first house we said no to and then another was going to be available for an extra 2 weeks and we had to give 30 days at our apt.
mary79 10-13-2007, 06:01 PM Ya, I just found out I'm pregnant. So I guess we will be trying to get a 4 bedroom. If we can only get a 3 bedroom that will be fine too.
Its nice to know that pretty much everyone has gotten a house pretty fast!!

yes, it is:yes:whew
mackenziesmommy 10-17-2007, 06:50 PM if you're pregnant with #3 you'll get a 4 bedroom more than likely...if you have to go on a wait list it will be for a 4 bedroom.

even though it will be obvious, get a note from your dr before you come down stating that you are preg. you need that note to get on the list for a 4 bedroom.
cyndilou 10-17-2007, 11:18 PM We just left the housing office yesterday. We would have been getting a 3 bedroom and the wait list was going to be 2-5 months. I don't know they area you are looking for, but they told us we had to go on the list for E7-E9. We told them that did not matter to us, but that is what they told us.

:wow
I don't really know the different areas. We have a cat so that only gives us a few options. We are only E5 ,so we would be on the list for E6 and below I guess :dunno I didn't know they had different housing for different pay grades there.

oh ok ,thank you!!
cyndilou 10-17-2007, 11:35 PM They do have different housing areas based on your rate. Although I think they are close together. We told them we did not care about being in the E7 and up housing, but they said we had to. We went and looked at the housing areas and for us we put our name on the housing list for Chesterton. They are single family homes and not townhouses and are not attached to anyone. My DH really liked that they are not connected to anyone. Either one Chesteron or Murphy Canyon is a 2-5 month wait for us. So the kids and I are going toTexas until we get housing.

Just dont mention the cat, and you can get in anywhere :teehee :wink

Lincoln can be a pain in the butt with it. A friend of mine had a cat in Chollas, she was almost kicked out with no chance of finding a home for the cat and being able to stay.

We had a big dog while we were in Terrace View and nothing ever happened :) So it can go either way. Cats though are the easiest things to hide :teehee

Ariel 11-16-2007, 11:33 PM bumping.. just curious how long it been taking for people to get into Murphy Canyon.
Brandi 11-16-2007, 11:39 PM A guy at Dh's school said he called housing this week and was told that the list was a year b/c he has a pet and I think MC is the only area that accepts pets or one of the only areas anyhow. So, yeah, he was told a year for a 2 or 3 bedroom. :nutts Its hard to rely on the hotsheets and phone calls though b/c things change once you get in the office.
