Pamela 10-05-2007, 04:38 AM that's incredibly disturbing
SIMMYBABEZ 10-05-2007, 04:40 AM Damn- I should have forewarned people about the disturbing nature of the image.
I forgot!
Sorry guys :scared
Pamela 10-05-2007, 04:41 AM haha no you're fine.
Astra 10-05-2007, 04:42 AM i try to see that its only a piece of sick humor.but being a struggling to recover selfharmer alot of times i find it really offensive more so then just disturbing. x.X.
Donna 10-05-2007, 04:47 AM Makes me so glad that DH isnt an internet junkie when he attempted.
missyanne24 10-05-2007, 04:47 AM There's a lot worse out there than this. JMO.
SIMMYBABEZ 10-05-2007, 05:09 AM Ofcourse there is worse out there.. but this says "hey kids this is how you do it, don't get it wrong ok"- I just find it sick that someone would be guiding them.. in a manner of speaking.
marinewife_sd 10-05-2007, 05:11 AM that's incredibly disturbing
:yes
What image where you trying to google??!! :shock
SIMMYBABEZ 10-05-2007, 05:34 AM Lol- emo pictures :P
I was trying to find some so I can make my own div layout.
MamaMia 10-05-2007, 05:35 AM Yeah its in bad taste but there is a lot worse such as the anorexia sites.
Debra 10-05-2007, 07:31 AM That is awful! :no
Becca 10-05-2007, 07:45 AM Hoenstly, it makes my stomach churn.
:sadeyes
:no
s. rosa 10-05-2007, 08:14 AM it really just pisses me off a lot, but i'm a recovering self-harmer too so my opinion's probably a bit skewed.
AnAopps 10-05-2007, 08:19 AM It makes me sad that anyone would take the time to create something like that. :(:no
kellsies_mom 10-05-2007, 08:44 AM thats really gross, isnt it one of those emo things? i never really understood that.
harrisonsdream 10-05-2007, 08:45 AM as a recovering self harmer wow that's just sick
girl20racer 10-05-2007, 08:52 AM I think pictures like that are usually used on forums where guys constantly flame or bash each other.. but I do think it's disturbing myself..
navyaowife2005 10-05-2007, 08:57 AM That is awful! :no
:agree
Veronica 10-05-2007, 08:58 AM Seems like just some sick humor to me. I dont feel much of anything when I look at that. :shrug
footstepswife 10-05-2007, 09:00 AM WOW, terrible, I dont like that one at all.
Veronica 10-05-2007, 09:01 AM I think pictures like that are usually used on forums where guys constantly flame or bash each other.. but I do think it's disturbing myself..
:yes that makes sense...like telling someone to take a flying leap...into a pool of sharks with :quoteLaser Beams on their heads:quote :)
girl20racer 10-05-2007, 09:23 AM :yes that makes sense...like telling someone to take a flying leap...into a pool of sharks with :quoteLaser Beams on their heads:quote :)
LOL I've actually seen that picture, I think it was on one of my car forums I'm on..which the majority on the forum is well.. men. And what do boys/men love to do? Fight over the internet :lmao
MIKOSWIFEY 10-05-2007, 09:29 AM Sorry, that made me laugh. I guess I have a sick sense of humor. My brother and I always joke around about things like that. Aww, I miss my bro. I'm totally sending that to him. :lol
missyanne24 10-05-2007, 09:30 AM There's jokes like this all over the internet...it's not meant to be instructional or anything. :shrug it doesn't bother me.
The Megster 10-05-2007, 09:36 AM There's jokes like this all over the internet...it's not meant to be instructional or anything.
But there are kids out there with sicknesses that may see that as instruction. That's the sad part.
These types of things just make me fear for my own child....the things he'll see and hear, that I can't protect him from.
harrisonsdream 10-05-2007, 09:44 AM But there are kids out there with sicknesses that may see that as instruction. That's the sad part.
These types of things just make me fear for my own child....the things he'll see and hear, that I can't protect him from.
exactly.
when i was in the height of my depression and was planning my death having come across that it just might have sparked me. not saying it would have but it could have. it's irresponsible to have that out there just like it's irresponsible to have the pro-suicide, pro-eating disorder, etc etc sites out there
Brittany Rashel 10-05-2007, 10:16 AM thats really gross, isnt it one of those emo things? i never really understood that.
it's really hard to understand unless you have done it before. I'm a recovering self-harmer too. It always makes me mad to see stuff like this, it's incredibly insensitive and obviously the person who made it doesn't realize that cutting is a real sickness.
MIKOSWIFEY 10-05-2007, 10:20 AM it's really hard to understand unless you have done it before. I'm a recovering self-harmer too. It always makes me mad to see stuff like this, it's incredibly insensitive and obviously the person who made it doesn't realize that cutting is a real sickness.
I think many people, including myself, don't understand it very well. I never thought of it as a sickness, but I suppose it's right up there with eating disorders.
SIMMYBABEZ 10-05-2007, 10:27 AM No- emo's arn't suicidal LOL.
Um when I was depressed, death was on my mind constantly- honestly- I can say that if I saw this when I was in as far as I was last year, this would have been an instruction manual.. not a joke.
Brittany Rashel 10-05-2007, 10:28 AM No, many psychologists consider it a disease. Self-mutilation is a very serious disorder. It occurs when people are in a serious state of depression and IMO it's really not something to joke about.
SIMMYBABEZ 10-05-2007, 10:35 AM I 100% agree Brittany. My sister is a self harmer and she is doing it to SURVIVE. If she wanted to kill herself she would- she's harming herself to save herself. MANY MANY people don't understand this.. many people don't even understand.
To me- this sort of photo is absolutely insensitive and disturbing. As I said- this would have been an instruction manual to me last year, not a joke. Suicide, cutting, depression- none of it is a joke, none of it should be made fun of.
Caimbrie 10-05-2007, 10:36 AM I think it's tacky.. but that's what you get on the internet.. all kinds of tacky, rude, etc... things.
Even being someone who cut myself for years (i wore long sleeves all year round to hide it, even when it was 95 degrees outside I wore long sleeve shirts) it doesn't bother or offend me. I don't see any kid/teen seeing it as an "instruction"... it's a stupid picture intended to be used to try to offend people.
RunAwayLove 10-05-2007, 10:36 AM wow
Caimbrie 10-05-2007, 10:40 AM I 100% agree Brittany. My sister is a self harmer and she is doing it to SURVIVE. If she wanted to kill herself she would- she's harming herself to save herself. MANY MANY people don't understand this.. many people don't even understand.

It's a hard thing to explain too. I had so much hurt and pain inside growing up. I had a BAD childhood, things happened to me, my mother treated me terrible.... I felt like everything was my fault and I felt trapped. I wasn't allowed to have friends, I wasn't allowed to go anywhere at all. I was literally a prisoner and a maid in my home. If I even as much as opened my mouth when i was upset It would get punched shut so it was a way to get out all of the hurt and pain without getting myself in any more toruble. It was almost like a release. I was have so much hurt and anger built up I felt like I would explode and doing it helped make me feel better for a little while. It sounds so stupid and awful when you hear it and even me looking back at it I can't believe how stupid it is.. but when you're going through it, it's so much different.
Julianne 10-05-2007, 10:46 AM Funny in a sick way :lol
tifflovezyou 10-05-2007, 10:47 AM Ehh, ive seen worse.. Some people find humor in other peoples pain. Thats the world we live in... :sigh
harrisonsdream 10-05-2007, 10:55 AM simmy i'm with you
MontanaSweetie 10-05-2007, 11:32 AM Ofcourse there is worse out there.. but this says "hey kids this is how you do it, don't get it wrong ok"- I just find it sick that someone would be guiding them.. in a manner of speaking.
I agree, its a sad and sickening image to look at.
Ashnbri 10-05-2007, 11:45 AM :shrug I have seen it a long time ago and think it is funny.
That is absolutely wrong.
everlong11 10-05-2007, 11:47 AM that's horrible. i wonder what was going through someone's mind when making this...
harrisonsdream 10-05-2007, 11:47 AM not to start drama but why do some of y'all think it's funny?
Aunt Sponge 10-05-2007, 11:48 AM I laughed. *shrug*
I'm such a monster :rolleyes
NavyChiefs_Wife 10-05-2007, 11:48 AM i agree that there's a lot worse out there but it's still disturbing that it's giving you the directions on to slit your wrists so you don't get it wrong.
harrisonsdream 10-05-2007, 11:49 AM I laughed. *shrug*
I'm such a monster :rolleyes
never said you were a monster but i am curious what is funny about it
NavyChiefs_Wife 10-05-2007, 11:49 AM :shrug I have seen it a long time ago and think it is funny.
i don't understand what's so funny about it.
gottli10 10-05-2007, 11:50 AM Sorry, that made me laugh. I guess I have a sick sense of humor. My brother and I always joke around about things like that. Aww, I miss my bro. I'm totally sending that to him. :lol
I agree - as awful as it is, I found it kinda funny.
*.:Hope:.* 10-05-2007, 11:52 AM I've seen it before. :shrug
That stuff is actually kinda popular believe it or not. :sick
Ashnbri 10-05-2007, 12:07 PM i don't understand what's so funny about it.
because I believe that it is not meant to be serious...and just by how it is written. :shrug.
SIMMYBABEZ 10-05-2007, 12:07 PM I'd like to know why people think it's funny.
Maybe I'm just oversensitive. Maybe that's it.. because when I see this- it automatically puts me back in a place where I was last year. And if ANYONE has been through something so deep, something that is a picture of a living hell- they will know exactly what I mean.
I have never harmed myself physically- I have always tried to avoid that.. but I sure as hell DID contemplate suicide and this is just so disturbing on so so so many levels.
I just can't see the humour in it at all. SUICIDE is not funny.
Aunt Sponge 10-05-2007, 12:07 PM never said you were a monster but i am curious what is funny about it
The 'hey kids' made me think of two things that use that phrase is a dark-humor sense that a lot of people just don't get.

People find humor in the method of delivery - not what it's actually saying.
*shrug* I read the OP and didn't actually think of suicide ... more so the means of making fun of those inspirational/instructional posters that everyone's seen.
harrisonsdream 10-05-2007, 12:08 PM perhaps it's because i agree with simmy that suicide is not funny on any level. i've been in that dark place before
SIMMYBABEZ 10-05-2007, 12:11 PM It's the worst feeling you can feel. Life dosn't exist as you knew it to exist before, you are left with nothing but your own cloud of self destructive thoughts and misery- there is no light in the end of the tunnel, there is no hope, nothing makes more sense than dying.
Maybe this picture is supposed to be a joke- but to alot of people, it's either a reminder or a guide. In the big picture- wtf is so funny about it?
harrisonsdream 10-05-2007, 12:11 PM It's the worst feeling you can feel. Life dosn't exist as you knew it to exist before, you are left with nothing but your own cloud of self destructive thoughts and misery- there is no light in the end of the tunnel, there is no hope, nothing makes more sense than dying.
:yes exactly
SIMMYBABEZ 10-05-2007, 12:14 PM And the crazy part about depression is- when you finally get to see some light, and things become clearer- you look back at yourself when you were in that dark place- and you think- why the fuck was I thinking about killing myself? I'm so glad I didn't.. but I could have.. and that's just so fucking scary.
Some think they have no control when they are drunk- imagine how much control they have when they are severely depressed?
Yeah- I see this as a guide. Simple.
Aunt Sponge 10-05-2007, 12:15 PM *shrug*
I've attempted suicide and so has my husband and we both can take a joke.
Though I do have a line - It's not like I'm actually showing things like that to my kids...Because they wouldn't get the 'joke' in it.
I'm an adult and I can handle humor in all forms, and laugh if I want. It's just not a big deal to me. But, still, when i was younger I wouldn't have thought the same.
There was a smith-and-wesson advertisement that had the same idea years ago that caused a rage...It said something like 'smith-and-wesson, when you're down and out it's your last and only friend'
SIMMYBABEZ 10-05-2007, 12:16 PM Yeah- I get jokes.
I just don't find jokes like this funny.
As I said- I may just be oversensitive.. I personally don't think jokes about ending ones life the "right way" are funny.
:shrug
i'm kinda drunk and repeating myself :P
harrisonsdream 10-05-2007, 12:17 PM Yeah- I get jokes.

Jillove27 10-05-2007, 12:18 PM Put this here just incase well.. just incase :P
I found it whilst googling an image..
So this is really disturbing to me- what about you guys?
http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n172/__killingjar4/Emo_kids_do_this.jpg
I am very disturbed! :angry That is horrible and should not be anywhere that kids can see it. :clubThey don’t need anymore ideas on how to kill themselves. :eekdance
Aunt Sponge 10-05-2007, 12:19 PM i agree with this.
So do I ... everyone has a different 'humor' button.
Some things that others find hilarious and entertaining aren't amusing to me at all.
But, with dark humor it's who you actually expose it to that makes it comical or not.
I would absolutely be infuriated if I saw something like that posted on the bullitin board at my kid's school - or anywhere that they would find it.
That being said, I know this was found on the internet - and the internet is one place i do not allow my children to wander unsupervised.
SIMMYBABEZ 10-05-2007, 12:24 PM Yeah- google isn't banned from most schools. And if kids can research home made bombs online (at school), they sure as hell can google suicide tips.
Scary huh?!
Anyone who knows me knows I don't stop joking around.. I'm a bullshit artist. I'll find a joke out of anything. Just can't see it here.
I get some people look at it with a different sense- but I don't- and I have to wonder what sick son of a bitch even made the freaking sign. He was obviously not thinking how it could hurt alot of people.
The internet is a wonderful place but like most places it sure has a dark side. Just like alot of people.
Brittany Rashel 10-05-2007, 12:25 PM I'd like to know why people think it's funny.

You're not oversensitive Simmy, I completely agree with you. I find it offensive. I was in severe depression and used to do things like that. It's not something funny, it's terrifying. You feel like you've lost all control. From my personal experience I was in so much severe pain (emotionally) all the time and it was the only kind of pain I could control. Now I don't do it anymore but I know what it's like to be in that dark place. And for people to find that kind of misery funny, well I just find that very disturbing.

amen
andreacn 10-05-2007, 12:29 PM There was a guy in my high school that would say something like that. He was(still is probably) a sick :censored
Lizieneuf 10-05-2007, 12:33 PM why would someone even make that?
Caimbrie 10-05-2007, 12:43 PM And the crazy part about depression is- when you finally get to see some light, and things become clearer- you look back at yourself when you were in that dark place- and you think- why the fuck was I thinking about killing myself? Yeah- I see this as a guide. Simple.
See for me.. when I think back to why I used to want to kill myself.. I don't wonder why. I know exactly why. I'm just glad I took myself out of the situation and brought myself out of it.
SIMMYBABEZ 10-05-2007, 12:51 PM Yeah Sarah, you DEFINATELY had a reason to be depressed and it just shows so much character and strength about how you were able to struggle free from that hold that was placed over you.
For me- the depression came from nowhere. It just hit me like a ton of bricks. I was in it, I knew I was but I couldn't determine why, I just knew I couldn't trust myself anymore and it was scary.. when I came out of it- I looked back and realised I was so close to ending my life and I still couldn't figure out why.
Loretta 10-05-2007, 12:53 PM It's a sick joke :dunno
I don't personally find it disturbing(and yes, I have been very closely affected by suicude), but I can see how others do.
JudyB 10-05-2007, 01:03 PM :no....very sick
Rainbow Brite 10-05-2007, 01:04 PM That is horrible. UGH! Why do people make crap like that.
Wicked 10-05-2007, 01:15 PM I am honestly surprised at the overall reaction to this*. What happened to "I shouldn't have to inconvenience myself and stop sending nuts to school with my kid" and "it's the parents responsibility to protect their child not mine" responses to the peanut butter debate? Wouldn't that same logic apply here? Obviously someone found it funny and doesn't want to be inconvenienced by anyone else's issues, so if you wouldn't want your kids to see it then don't let them online cuz this shit is EVERYWHERE. No one else is responsible for protecting your child right? Even if it could mean life or death to them?
*I am just talking about the overall differences in reactions to the two separate debates, not anyone individually. I really thought I was going to see a different reaction to this topic when I started reading the thread.

I think most people were drawing conclusions from their own personal experiences, rather than what they would do if their child got their hands on it.
harrisonsdream 10-05-2007, 01:20 PM I think most people were drawing conclusions from their own personal experiences, rather than what they would do if their child got their hands on it.
i know i was.
as for my child seeing that, there won't be unsupervised internet time at my home and although i can't speak for school and/or friends.
SIMMYBABEZ 10-05-2007, 01:26 PM If my child saw it- I'd talk to them about how suicide isn't the only option, and certainly not the answer.
I plan to educate them about this complete issue when they come to age. And I won't know that age until I see they are mature enough to understand.
Also- if the internet is still on a computer when they are old enough to know computers- I'll be transforming that thing into a mine field of parental locks.
:D
Aunt Sponge 10-05-2007, 01:28 PM Heh ... they do sell programs that are designed to 'button up' the internet so you don't have to hover...You can program things to shut off when certain words are typed or read. And you can set a time-limit and things like that.
Donna 10-05-2007, 01:28 PM I am honestly surprised at the overall reaction to this*. For me this had nothing to do with my kids. It had to do with being thankful that my DH isnt on the net enough to have found this last year before I walked in on him taking a razor blade to his wrists.
SIMMYBABEZ 10-05-2007, 01:30 PM For me this had nothing to do with my kids. It had to do with being thankful that my DH isnt on the net enough to have found this last year before I walked in on him taking a razor blade to his wrists.

Amen to that girl.
wife-n-mommy 10-05-2007, 01:31 PM That's just plain out disturbing... was this supposed to be a joke, or is it for real? that should deffinately be a banned image.
Green~Mammy 10-05-2007, 01:57 PM I have thought about death when I was low, but at that time it was I COULD just drive my car off this or into that. How ever I have my children to worry about (back then I only had one child) my therapist says THINKING about death is normal it is when you plan it that you need to ask for help. I am bipolar depression and sad thoughts are sometimes a part of my life. I have to see the humor in it or I don't think I would be able to get through the bad times.
Any way I KNOW the right way to slit my wrists if I was wanting to do it that way. I don't think most people NEED an instruction manual. If they did they can just hop on ANY of the pro suicide sites which ARE actually instructional manuals.
This picture is just somebody being funny, someone that has a dark sense of humor. It neither amuses me or disgusts me everyone is different, what they think is funny will be different. As for banning it I don't believe images or books, or movies should be banned.
Green~Mammy 10-05-2007, 02:02 PM So do I ... everyone has a different 'humor' button.

That is what I thought of too...If they hadn't written the hey kids part then I wouldn't have thought it funny.
LittleMsSunshine 10-05-2007, 05:55 PM My intial reaction is.... I wonder who's trying to make a point, and I wonder what that point is.
I'm pretty open-minded, and usually I don't have a problem with using sarcasm... but I'll agree it's a bit tacky.
Ok, I just read the entire thread... and after scratching my head trying to figure out where stuff like this comes from... it TOTALLY makes sense, whoever was saying that it was just some asshole comment that a guy would post on a men's forum. I know all kinds of guys my age (girls too for that matter) who would find that kind of sarcasm humorous.
I don't think it's meant to be taken seriously. It's the same as telling someone to go play on the freeway.... or something equally dumb.
I highly doubt that the person's intention was to seriously throw suicide in anyone's face... yeah, it's horribly insensitive to those affected by suicide that happen to stumble across it....but I don't think that was the intended audience at all. It's very easy to joke about things, until we're faced with them.
I personally would never condone crap like this... but I'm also a firm believer in the First Amendment. I think it's a parental responsibility to protect your children, and teach them to know better than to take crap like that seriously.
To those of you who have been affected by suicide, or attempted suicide, I'm deeply sorry and I hope you can find peace and heal. :hugs
