Does the military actually get it off? It seems like, if they get bloody Columbus Day off, they should get Veteran's Day.... and as that works out, does that mean they get Monday Nov 12th off, like most other places, or does it only count for the 11th? Or not count at all?
TIA.

I think it depends on their job if they do or not. My dad will be back on post and will have to work b/c he is a MP.

Depends on the command. DH's command chooses to work Columbus Day so they can have the day after turkey day off...so I know there is some leeway when it comes to some of the holidays.
My husband gets monday the 12th off and as i am a school teacher so do i!! Woohoo for long weekends!!

DH didnt get it off last year. Something was going on at work. But he will this year. Same command. It all depends on the command and what they have going on.
Hmm. Cool, cool. Appreciate all the answers, even if some of us aren't sure. I'll tell DB to just check with his command (I think he can manage that much).
My birthday's that weekend, and I know I have the 12th off from school, so I'm just trying to work things out.

In our experience, it's always been yes. Matter of fact, it's our wedding anniversary. The main reason we picked that day to get married was so we'd always have that day together(unless he's out to sea).
