Did you start any resources when the kids were young? What sorts of things would you suggest doing with a 2 year old to get them started? DS doesn't do much right now, but I'd like to change that. What sort of ideas do y'all have?

I started with colors and shapes with mine. I would make coloring time into a game with naming the colors of the crayons. Then we would do follow the leader, but with them drawing shapes with certain colors.

i would say like colors and shapes and if they are mastering that move on to some other stuff. counting maybe i know some 2 y.o that can count to 10 but it just depends.

Thanks, ladies. I like the idea of turning it into a game.

Make it a part of your day to day life vs. just approaching it with a "school" mindset. For example, at the store you can ask him to spot things that are orange or round. If you play the game too it makes it more exciting to them. You can do the same thing with numbers - count the items you buy as you put them in your cart, count the apples as you put them in the bag, etc. You can apply this same "game" to when you are driving in the car, when you are folding laundry, reading books together, etc....there are colors, shapes and numbers everywhere.

I am huge fan of Leap Frog products. I bought the Letter Factory and Word Factory DVD's for my oldest. They are something I still use and my kids have caught on quickly from them. I also offer lots of toys that encourage matching shapes and colors and books that talk about those things. We count things just because they are there. Wether it is something for snack or how many toys we have put away.

DS does the tracing workbooks. He can identify all the letters and numbers from 1-10, so now we're working on tracing so he can write them.
He really enjoys the books, and will definitely be writing his name before he turns three in March, he's soooo close!

We have done colors, shapes, animal sounds, counting, abc's, etc. Most of that was just verbally but we did use puzzles for the shapes and pictures of the animals...mostly we just printed them offline :)

He listens to language tapes each day, I let him pick which language. He's been more into German lately, but he can only count to 20 in french(his english numbers stop at 10 :lol) so I will be toning it down and helping him round out his skills this next month.
