Does anyone know how long it takes for mail to get to a ship out to sea. I've never sent mail to DB's ship, but I'm going to on Monday. Do I have to do anything special other than putting on the address?

You have to fill out a cutoms form at the post office and take it up to the counter with you when you mail it. I would recommend sending it priority mail. It will get there a few days faster. It usually takes anywhere from 1-2 weeks for them to get it. I have never had it take more then that and my DH has been on 3 different ships. Good luck!

Great thanks. DB said that it took him 3 months one time to get a piece of mail. So I was worried about sending him mail. I was going to take and drop it in the mail. I'm glad I asked. I will go up to the counter, get the customs form and send the mail priority.

if it's just a letter you don't have to do anything special (at least i didn't when i sent cards to DH on the sub), but packages need the customs form like dannysgirl said. what i used to do was get a couple of them, that way i could fill one out before i went to the post office (easier with 2 kids that i had to drag around lol).

i don't know how it is with surface ships, but with DH he'd only get stuff when they pulled in port. once he got a package in about a week, but he also had one package following him around for about 3-4 months lol.

Wow.....I'm sending a 9x11 mailing envelope sized mailing. I am worried about how long it will take to reach him. DB told me once it took 3 months for him to receive a package. Wow.......I guess I will send it and hope for the best.

I have found that actually if you send a box it seems to get there faster. I sent Dh regular cards that he never even got because I guess he said they get lost easier.
