What are your thoughts on having pride? Another most got me thinking. Many people feel we should not have pride. I am trying to understand why some feel that is not a good thing?
For example, I posted about DS helping the 2 girls get out of the school when there was a fire. I am most definately proud of him for doing that! I am also proud of DH for all that he does for our family. I am proud of DD for everything she does in school! And so much more!
I am wondering why some would feel that is a bad thing?
For those that do believe that you should not have pride at all, how do you acknowledge your spouse or kids when they do something wonderful or selfless? Just curious!

Having pride in your children or your spouse is one thing, but to me, and I think I know the post your reffering to...having pride in oneself can be detrimental in relationships with others. Take for instance the relationship I have with my dh's step mom. I cannot stand her. I dont want to ever talk to her again...BUT she is married to my FIL and he's a great guy (when she's not brainwashing him) but I digress...I could decide I wont play into her victim role and not allow her to see my dd. But that would IMO be playing her game as well. So I smile, act civily, and breathe a sigh of relief that I got out without getting burned. I think by behaving opposite its being pridefull BECAUSE she has hurt me in the past, and so I want to hurt her back. Did that make sense?

If this is referring to my prayer of pride in my life that I posted last night...I can explain simply...SOMETIMES pride or in MY case "bragging" is negative. I believe we should take pride in ourselves and be proud of our families and things like that...but I also believe that SOMETIMES pride can be boastful in a negative way. I tend to have alot of conviction in my heart when I get a "better than thou" attitude. I would never want to come across to anyone as that. JMO

OR another example of being pridefull is not allowing yourself to show ANY vulnerablility.

That makes total sense! And I am sorry she is treating your FIL in a negative way! :(

I can understand that! Do you feel bragging is negative at all times or just in certain cases? I hope that isn't too intrusive! I'm just curious!
Feel free to use my example of what DS did. I don't mind! ;) IMO opinion, I think in a way, some could consider it bragging about him doing such a wonderful deed. But at the same time I was so completely proud & happy with his actions that I wanted to share that! How do you handle situations like that?

I think there is a difference between being proud of someone else's or your own accomplishments and just being flat-out boastful.
I can deal with the first type of pride, the second one gets tired.

No I do not feel like bragging is negative all the time...only when one is truly "rubbing things in" for example...PRIDE before the fall ~"Sox are kicking BUTT"
THE FALL...7th inning 3 run homer Colorado.

I see what you mean! And that analogy has me laughing up a storm!
