View Full Version : Just finished bct...questions about ait.. coulson21 10-28-2007, 07:26 PM what do I need to expect for AIT? DH said he thinks its just as bad as bct with little freedoms, can he call me more? Hes in fort knox by the way... Felicia 10-28-2007, 07:28 PM He should be able to call you more, as time goes on he'll get more and more freedom added on. :) Mak327 10-28-2007, 09:28 PM He should be able to call more. Maybe not the first few weeks or whatever because the privileges come over time, but basically yes. It will also depend a lot on the MOS he has chosen, etc. Mosley04 10-28-2007, 10:25 PM im not sure my dh wont start until the end of november, but they did tell him he could bring his cell phone and a radio with him to ait. he said they told him he would only be able to use his phone on his off time at the end of the day. he will be at fort jackson so i guess it is different depending on where you are! Loretta 10-29-2007, 01:01 AM I see DH every weekend, but he phased quickly! If he does well, and gets in no trouble, he'll phase each time a new one comes up...and with each phase comes more freedom. Most of the guys are going out to bars every night at this point. It's pretty free :lol Lizieneuf 10-29-2007, 02:16 PM My DH started AIT a week ago today, and its getting a lot better.. he calls me every night, sometimes hes drained and we only talk for like 2 minutes, but its so great just to hear "goodnight baby, I love you" It's what i live for rite now! about the freedom.. that all depends on the drill sargent. My DH was suposed to get a full weekend pass this last weekend, so i went down there and the drill sargent ended up only giving them like 3 hours on sat and 2 hours on sun. (i would make the 1000 mile round trip drive for 30 min if i could!) we just got married a week and a half ago, so its really hard not having him around! good luck with everything! coulson21 10-30-2007, 05:56 PM Thanks for all the info..No calls yet, but still hoping! teahoney 10-30-2007, 08:04 PM My boyfriend just started AIT and has been able to call me every evening if only for a few minutes. Don't know when he'll get weekend passes. coulson21 10-30-2007, 10:33 PM DH said he dosent think he will get anymore calls or freedoms then basic! (he told me this at family day) I was just hoping he was wrong since i read that so many of your guys so's got their cells back or got to call more...This sucks.. teahoney 10-31-2007, 04:35 PM Every AIT is different but at least from what I have heard, even if at first they don't have much freedom, they do get more and more over time. Hopefully he will have more freedoms than he realizes. Lizieneuf 11-01-2007, 10:12 AM whats is his MOS? sometimes that changes things. cceribit 11-01-2007, 10:19 AM My Dh is the vice-principle (so to speak) and head instructor for AIT here at Fort Sill...depending on entering rank (prior military, ng, reserves etc. just switching mos for example) bases their freedoms. If they are just beginning their careers and their MOS's it's the same restrictions as basic. Limited calls, no off post, bay barracks living, daily inspections, etc. I know yesterday the instructors confiscated all cell phones, laptops and tobbaco products on the first day of a new class. Scribble 11-01-2007, 11:28 AM DB did is AIT over the summer at Ft. Leonard Wood. I got lots of calls, but he didn't have his cell (which was his own darn fault). He said it was pretty free and he was able to go off post quite a few times. In general, AIT is better than basic with more freedoms...but it really does depend on where he goes. thekels9 11-01-2007, 04:04 PM My DF has been at his AIT now for about a month. Until about a week ago, he was just calling on the "day room" phone or on a pay phone. However, last week he took a test to be able to get more freedom- he now has his cell phone, can go off post on the weekends...it's pretty nice now. He calls me first thing in the morning and probably 2-3 times more in the evening. I love it. coulson21 11-01-2007, 05:14 PM My DF has been at his AIT now for about a month.
