Lately, I've talked a little about my day, and then he talks A LOT, mostly venting about everything that has been bothering him & all the stuff going on there.

Is it typical for a guy to tell their SO so much about what's going on? Is it a good or bad thing? What are your typical convos like?

And yes he does vent about what's going on over there, and I vent aswell. We don't believe in covering each other up in cotton wool. We like to be informed on each others situation.

Ofcourse that's when we can hear enough to make out what each other is saying.

right now it varies.sometimes hes venting,and sometimes we have nothing to talk about because im tired and hes tired.

i think our typical convos consist of a little of me venting, a little of him venting, and then talk about our future, his coming home, our wedding, and other random funny things to cheer each other up...yup, that about covers it! :)

my db never wanted to talk about what he was doing. he wanted to talk about everything but what was going on over there. Just be supportive even if he is venting a lot

LOL that is too funny...well, it's not but it is...Wow, I did not talk to my BF for almost 8 months and when he called me the end of August we talked for 15 minutes and I guess based on this our convo was not so bad after all. LOL He was quiet, we actually both sat there a couple times and didnt know what to say. He couldnt tell me ANYTHING. (confidential) so we ended up talking about me. I asked "do you think about me"? and he said "of course"! I said, "I still want another chance with you". (we only knew eachother two months before deployment) and he said "soon". I said "well, dont you want that"? he said, "I guess". I said "you guess"?? and he said "yes, yes". LOL That "I guess" has bothered me ever since the call in August. My girls tell me to ignore it, he is a man and also his call was being recorded. And they just have a lot on their minds. Also reading some of the posts here help a lot, they all seem a little out there, distant right now.

My DF and I usually talk about "neutral stuff" like what we have been thinking about, and what we want to do while he's home on R&R and when he comes home after deployment. We also like to talk about our families and what they are up too... stuff like that.

hahaha ya there is always a lot of "what did you say?" going on.. and the delay creates odd silences and then we overlap talking at the same time, darn connection!! But, we talk about things that i'm doing and funny stories (i try to make him laugh every convo) and then his flights or things that are going on with him there. Then the usual "i miss you's" and sometimes we'll mention things that each of us has gotten in a lettter/email. we always keep it upbeat though:)

I'm not dealing with a deployment yet but I already feel like I am since he lives 2500 miles away, leaves in 2 months for Iraq and is always away in the field. I usually talk the most about what I've been doing and give him any gossip about my friends and family. He usually only talks about work which is all he does so that is the only thing on his mind. He complains about work also and I always feel bad b/c there is nothing I can do for him except listen.

It's good that he feels like he can unload with you. How flattering :) You won't have the answers to things, and you won't be able to fix things.... He is under a lot of stress, the best thing you can do is be a good listener and reassure him. Try to pick positive topics to talk about, like if you have plans for when he comes home or something.

My DB usually doesn't say much about his day and he's never been one to complain. He is more interested in what is going on over here. When I ask him questions he will answer, but most days are so boring and empty for him he doesn't have much to share.

:yes He's a master of not talking on the phone (does he not understand the point?!). Only, I can never hold out, so I end up blabbering on, and then pouting 'cos he's making me ramble by not talking.

Generally the conversations are me not talking much and him talking about everything he has been doing. And other random things he can think of. We never talk about the one thing we need to discuss. But, then again...I really don't want to talk about it either. I think he is avoiding talking about it again. Maybe he changed his mind? I hope so.

Well....my convo lasts about 15 mins or so, we usually talk about him first like whats happening and how he feels or what has he been doing. Then we talk about what I've been up too and the family. Thats just about it. We usually email each other more then he calls me.

Most of our convos are about his work. How things are going and so forth and so on. He does most the talking cause usually when he calls he wakes me up :rofl Then we end the phone convos with "I miss you and I love you" even in IM's we say that. There isnt a time that goes by where we dont say those words

We usually just do small talk.. the convo is the same every time.. he asks whats new, i ask how he is... i have NOTHING to tell him but i TRY... and he doesnt tell me much about basic.

and his letters to me are the same as the phone calls.... although i write him PAGES of all sorts of things... oh well.
