Basically it's a savings account, the interest on it it very high as far as savings accounts go. I like it because it's not as easy for me to get the money out of as my reg. savings account- less temptation for me to make impulse spending! It takes a couple days to get my money out vs immediately from my reg.savings.

That was what my dad put a majority of my "college fund" in for investing - it's a GREAT savings account that earns higher than average and higher than inflation interest - which is great! I never actually "used" the account, but I know that my dad would recommend it! :lol

The interest right now is 4.3% on the savings account. I have automatic withdraws set up from my checcking account on the 1st and 15th for $50 each time to be deposited into my ING savings.

I use it as well. You can set up transfers from your primary account to this account. You can also transfer back, but it does take a couple days, which is great if you are an impulse shopper. While SO is in Iraq, almost all his money is going into an ING account. It is considered online banking, there is not concrete building you can go into.

I can see why they are able to offer higher interest rates - lower overhead!

I love my ING account too. I have an automatic withdrawl after the 15th's payday, and it is good for me that I can't have an ATM card or checks for accessing the money. I think the only way to access the money is to transfer it back to one of your 'regular' accounts, so you need a couple of days notice.

I (L) my ING account.

Here is the specs on ING.

High interest, no fees, no service charges, no kidding.
With an Orange Savings Account, you earn a variable 4.30% Annual Percentage Yield (effective 09/19/07) with a level of flexibility, freedom, and security you simply won't find at other banks. And because your account is FDIC insured, your account is secure.

No required minimum balances.
There is no minimum balance required to open your Orange Savings Account, and you don't have to keep a specific balance in your account to qualify for a high interest rate. No matter how much you have on deposit, the rate is still 4.30% APY.

No fees. No service charges. No penalties. No hidden costs.
ING DIRECT's Orange Savings Account won't burden you with fees or service charges. Period. So you earn high interest on your money.

24-hour access to your account, and you don't even have to change banks.
An Orange Savings Account makes your money available to you whenever you need it. If you have an Electric Orange, you can transfer any or all of your available balance from your Orange Savings Account into your Electric Orange and have it instantly available for debit card or check purchases and payments. When you open your Orange Savings Account, it is automatically linked to the checking account used for your initial deposit. You can make deposits or withdraw funds by transferring money between your accounts online, through our Interactive Phone Service, or by speaking with an ING DIRECT Sales Associate.

Pay Yourself First!
The Automatic Savings Plan allows you to automatically have a fixed amount of money regularly transferred to your high interest Orange Savings from your linked checking account. You will be saving your money effortlessly and will have money for a rainy day or to achieve your dreams. You can either call us or set up your Automatic Savings Plan on this website. You specify how much money you would like transferred, and how often you would like it moved. This is the simple, easy way to really grow your Orange Savings Account.

Start making more money on your savings right now.
You don't have to switch your bank; simply activate your Orange Savings Account today and start earning interest that will actually amount to something. While your APY may change at any time based on market conditions, you are assured high interest with an ING DIRECT Orange Savings Account day after day.

To apply online or download an application, simply click on the "Open an Account" button on this web site and follow the easy instructions. Or you can call 1-800-ING-DIRECT to request an Orange Savings Account Application, which you can complete and return by mail.

I have the checking account as well and it is FANTASTIC! The APR is something like 3.5%. A far cry from NFCU's .5%!

I was checking out that, but I (L) USAA too much to leave them. :giggle I get cash back everytime I use my debit card as a credit for purchases- anywhere from $5-10 a month, plus my debit fee refunds up to $25. I think that ING has awesome accounts for everything, but my USAA isn't broke, so I don't need to fix it. :D

we just opened one and its GREAT! to me its better than the deployment savings account because its high interest all the time. we will have an allotment going into it while he is deployed and its not like a CD you can keep adding to it which is nice.

I love USAA too, but I have another savings account on the side where money is just deposited monthly. The APR in that account is good, but not as good as that ING account. So I'll move my savings savings to that account. I'll keep my USAA accounts.....I use them for day to day stuff and the other one can just build.

That's what I have, USAA for my everyday stuff and ING for my long-term savings.;)
