k...so...before dh and i were married he was living with his brother and paying rent...well before we married and the day after my kids got here, he skipped out. Well we've been doing okay since then-barely skimming by. We were supposed to get our BAH on the first but for some reason the paperwork was found unsigned on his commander's desk AFTER the due date so now it's still processing. We'll be recieving the normal pay but we have rent and some overdrafts to take care of. Our electricity is gonna be shut off on the 6th and my car has no gas (hence some of the overdrafts)..so we're screwed. We got an AER earlier this month to cover bills but since his brother left it still wasnt enough and now we're in trouble until we get our BAH and Lord knows when that will be. Does anyone know of any other resources available?? we tried selling stuff on craigslist but no one is buying. so we have no other thing we can do..any advice?

:hugs I don't know hun. I'm sorry you're in such a tough situation. The quickest way I have found to make money is waiting tables.. you walk home with cash in hand. :shrug

You can go back to AER to see if you can get a loan for the full amount of rent, I know they will do that since the BAH error is on the part of the Army, they will either do a loan or grant. depending. Also have your dh go to his command and let them know what is happening. sometimes they forget that people need to pay rent and you all can't wait for them to decide to sign.

Borrow money from family, try to get another loan from AER, maybe not pay on some other bill in order to pay for your electricity bill.

Good Luck hun! :hugs

Is asking either of your families for a loan possible?

There are often resources w/in the community that you can look to for assistance - especially for specific needs (ie utility expenses, food, etc) The thing is, though, that some of the actual terms will vary. For example, in this area there are "trustees" - elected people who are responsible for providing resources and referrals to people within their "township". They assist with financial needs, etc.
More general resources would be the Salvation Army (our area chapters will, for example, provide assistance with ONE utility cost IF you are on a disconnect notice), the Red Cross, churches (you do not have to be a member of the church to receive assistance from them - they run the programs as a ministry to the community as a whole), etc. Even if the first resource you go to is not able to help you with the needs you have they are often a wonderful resource for information and referral to OTHER sources that would be able to assist with your specific needs.

Dial 2-1-1

Seriously! Its 2-1-1 First Call for Help

It gets you in touch with your local United Way.

They can get you in touch with resources immediately. Help paying the electric bill, your rent, gas money, food, diapers, etc.

They can even get you help with daycare. There are some that will pay for your daycare while you find a job and then will give you either a huge break on day care expenses after you have income or pay for it all. And they are state approved daycares. So you are getting excellent care.

Also, contact local churches. They often do outreach to families in need. Especially, military families.

I hope this helps!
