I was just browsing the Lackland AFB site and was looking at the basic training timeline. It says in week 3 the trainees have something called "AEF Assignment Notification." Can anyone tell me what this means?

AEF stands for Air Expiditionary Force. It is basically their deployment schedule. I have never heard of someone getting their AEF assignment in Basic Training because they might not end up at the base the Air Force wants to originally assign them to, their rotation might have enough people when they get to their base that they are reassigned, etc.

Also, just because someone is assigned to an AEF doesn't mean they will deploy. I was in an AEF the whole time I was in and never deployed. DH has been assigned to a few different AEF's in his 9 years in and has only deployed 3 times.
