Crystal520 10-30-2007, 02:53 PM The only reason why I ask is because I remember when I was working in retail, we had this big meeting about what we were supposed to say, but even though they wanted us to say "Happy Holidays" I said "Merry Christmas" because that is what I celebrated along with other traditions. Kat 10-30-2007, 02:53 PM Absolutley 100% Merry Christmas. But see Im not those type that gets all butt hurt when I hear Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Merry or whatever Yule, etc etc :) Becca 10-30-2007, 02:53 PM I say Merry Christmas, and I'll say it until the day I die. Cuz I'm just Christmasy like that. :P petsparkle 10-30-2007, 02:55 PM I default to Merry Christmas, but if I know someone is of a different faith I try to say the right one to them. I absolutely NEVER say Happy Holidays. It just smacks of commericalism to me and totally ruins the magic of Christmas. In England we sometimes say Happy Christmas too which I do say over here. brentscrystal 10-30-2007, 02:56 PM Merry Christmas, unless I know the person I am saying it to and they celebrate something else. LOL. I know, I'm :screwy CassieR1202 10-30-2007, 02:58 PM The only reason why I ask is because I remember when I was working in retail, we had this big meeting about what we were supposed to say, but even though they wanted us to say "Happy Holidays" I said "Merry Christmas" because that is what I celebrated along with other traditions. Do I get offended when a Jewish person says "Happy Hanukkah" to me? No. Goes the same way with every other holiday. :) LittleMsSunshine 10-30-2007, 03:36 PM Happy Holidays until it's Dec. 24 or 25.... then it's Merry Christmas. Happy Holidays covers the season. I always tell them to have a "good vacation" instead of Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas or whatever. Same goes for any holiday, especially the religious ones. ashley5 10-30-2007, 04:11 PM Merry Chriastmas Trescha 10-30-2007, 04:12 PM merry christmas NikkiD 10-30-2007, 04:31 PM I will always say Merry Christmas. With someone wishes me Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, f--k off, whatever, I usually just say "Same to you!" people really call them holiday trees? we say Merry Christmas. Yes we call them holiday or Christmas trees since we celebrate both Christmas & Yule or Winter Solstice. We also have a Yule log! *Crystal* 10-30-2007, 05:39 PM Merry Christmas cookie 10-30-2007, 05:44 PM Merry Christmas Wicked 10-30-2007, 05:53 PM Happy Chrismahankawanzakah!!!!! Hatetank 10-30-2007, 06:06 PM Can't go wrong with my favorite latin catchall - Valeo. I'm certain I use it in the wrong context, but I certainly don't offend anyone with it's meaning of be strong, be well. Mao 10-30-2007, 06:09 PM I will clarify...I usually say "Merry Christmas", but when I'm doing Christmas cards and such, and the card already says "Merry Christmas" in it, I will write "Happy Holidays" in whatever personal message I'm doing to that specific person because I don't want to duplicate the "Merry Christmas" that was already in the card. I've always said that instead of Happy Holidays so out of habit that is what comes out of my mouth. Even when I'm out and people say Happy Holidays I tend to just come back with Merry Christmas. Once in a great while I will say Happy Holidays. I don't mean it out of disrespect. It is just habit for me to say Merry Christmas. Depends on WHO I am talking to, strangers or casual acquaintances get Happy Holidays as I don't know what they believe or if they are celebrating anything. Close friends and family members get Merry Christmas OR Happy Chanukah depending on what they celebrate. The reason why my default is Happy Holidays is because there are MANY more then just Christmas going on during winter and I like everyone to feel included. Waking_Hour 10-30-2007, 10:11 PM Merry Christmas. I actually don't think I have ever said Happy Holidays. luvmysailor81904 10-30-2007, 10:30 PM Both Felicia 10-30-2007, 10:32 PM Merry Christmas!!! *~*Cori*~* 10-30-2007, 10:35 PM Merry Christmas!! With someone wishes me Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, f--k off, whatever, I usually just say "Same to you!" That is pretty much what I do. If someone says it to me, I'll say "you too" but I don't offer the sentiment first ...I stick with have a nice day. I guess on Christmas day I probably say merry Christmas, but I really only see family, and it is actually Christmas. taraw226 10-30-2007, 11:39 PM i say "happy holidays" unless someone specifically wishes me a merry christmas first, then i'll respond in kind. i don't think that's being "too PC" or anything, if i don't know someone's religion or whatnot, i don't want to assume so "happy holidays" works better for me :dunno *.:Hope:.* 10-30-2007, 11:41 PM Merry Christmas billysgirl 10-30-2007, 11:41 PM i try to say happy holidays to strangers, but to my friends that i know aren't jewish i say merry christmas. i don't have any kwanzaa friends. I just don't ever say anything:lmao but seriously I just don't:D Casey 10-31-2007, 02:08 AM It really depends on who I am talking to. If it is family, I usually say "happy Christmas" (yeah I know I always say happy not merry, its weird, but i've always done that :heehee) But if its just someone I was casually talking to at work, I think I would say "happy holidays" :dunno though, its never been a big deal to me. I just go with whatever feels appropriate/polite. Casey 10-31-2007, 02:09 AM Oh, but when I am with my grandma, I say "Mele kalikimaka" :giggle Noel2385 10-31-2007, 02:15 AM Happy Holidays...a good number of my friends are Jewish so I try to use a greeting that sits well with everyone :) Sarah982 10-31-2007, 02:22 AM I'll say Merry Christmas.
