After the discussions the other day about tax returns....I got to wondering....

Would you rather get a large return once a year, or more money throughout the year?? I hear alot of people say things like 'when my tax return comes I'm getting.....such and such'

While we are in debt, I would rather get it at the end of the year and dump it on debt. Once we are out of debt, we will get it each check and invest it. :tu

I don't mind the way it is, because it gives us something to look forward to... We're taking DD to disneyland when we get our check this time. She has no idea!

We get the large tax return once a year and less during the year. We call it "forced savings" :giggle

dh made it that way years ago and we never changed it. I dont like it, but I do at the same time.

i would rather a little more through the year. All we do is put the tax return into savings and so why not make interest on it all year, thats all the gov't is doing

Well, Jason claims no deductions through out the year so we get a large lump sum each year at tax time. I actually like it that way b/c it gives us something to look forward to and I like being able to use it towards a nice treat for us, like a new piece of furniture or just a small shopping spree at walmart for some "wants" instead of necessities. :D

I like it all at one time, we put the majority of ours in savings and just spend a little. I think if it came a little at a time I'd be more apt to spend it, lol.

We claim everyone and do not really pay into our taxes throughout the year because we can not afford to live like that. The return we get is usually because we make so little.

I know here there is some child tax credit.
In Canada we got the Child Tax Benefit. It was monthly benefit based on income and family size. For three kids when I was not working it was $750 a month. Then for kids under 5 you also got another $100 bucks or so to be used if you were using childcare, or if you wanted to stay home. We never got big returns, but the monthly was nice.
Oh well, back to work for me.

I hate giving the government an interest free loan BUT I like the once a year lump.

I like the big lump once a year. Gets us caught up on bills and we can also get a few things for ourselves for once.

More in our checks. I'm actually good at putting it towards bills instead of spending it on whatever. So it wouldn't really matter to us. I just like seeing stuff paid down faster instead of waiting a year and then it suddenly being paid down.

I like getting it all at once because we are horrible at saving.

More in the checks. We're already living paycheck to paycheck as is, if we lost more money, we'd be screwed.

We do a little of both. DH claims half of the exemptions we are entitled to that way we have more during the year. But, we also have the ability to look forward to a chunk of money at tax time. It feels good to get rid of a huge chunk of a loan at once. This past check we put towards his old truck and completely paid it off. But, it died so we had to get a completely new loan :rolleyes

I like getting a large return once a year. Like Brandi said it's something to look forward to. We'll be buying a KING SIZE BED :jump4joy with ours this year and putting the rest into savings! I'm LOOOVING that we'll have the money to do that because we NEED a bigger, higher quality bed. It's the same bed I've been sleeping on since I was 12. That's 10 years, and it's only a full size!!!

Right now I'd like to get a large sum of money...I like to put that all towards any debt we owe, and then into savings, or if we absolutely need to buy something like new furniture, etc.

Exactly! We purposely set up our claims to get as close to a zero balance as possible so that we don't own and don't have a big return either - I'd rather have the money available to use throughout the year.

Love looking forward to one sum kind of like a lump sum from the lottery

Right now we claim all we can and still get a larger return. I wish we could fix it so we got more in his paychecks throughout the year.

We usually buy something we want and then stash the rest...

I prefer a large sum at the end of the year.
