I'm reading a chapter on Weapons of Mass Destruction. It is for my world politics online class.
I couldn't tell you one thing I read.
I'm just reading words and not comprehending them. I can't take in any information.
WHAT DO I DO?!

Take a break. Relook when your not so drained by it.

Go take a walk. Get some fresh air, a bottle of water, and then try again. Make sure there are NO distractions (no music playing, water dripping, etc...). Before you start to read again, take an extra 5 minutes sitting where you are and allow all the thoughts in your head to quiet down. Then pick up your book, take a deep breath, and start to read. Write down notes so your body and mind are aware of the book and the fact that you need to concentrate.

Man, I feel like I'm teaching meditation or something. :duh

yep. leave it be, and come back later. Go to a different subject or something. I get like that a lot... and I have new classes starting Monday.

wikipedia helps :D

Also if there are words you don't know, familiarize with them... then try to re-read... it'll make more sense :)

And like the other ladies said.. take a break. Sometimes you just need to let your head clear, and it'll click.

Take a break, get something to drink, clear your head, then get back to it. Thats what I have to do when I can't concentrate on stuff. Speaking of which I should probably get back to homework now myself! lol

Thanks!
I have a hard time focusing on one thing.
I procrastinate... like I'm hungry, let me check my email, msos, watch some tv, i still have time, etc.
I have such a hard time forcing myself to do these things. I know I just have to do it. :(

step away. clear your brain.

go to the chapter end. review the summary BEFORE YOU read. that way you get a generalized overview of the writing. than go through chapter by chapter and read. stop at the questions and answer them adequately (making sure you understand the rationale behind it).

Good luck!

To add to what everyone else already said, try reading it outloud. I had to do that a lot in college, it helped me not to scan, to actually take the time to read everything.

Give your brain a break for a while and do something relaxing. When you go back to read it, take some notes to help you remember what you read, or highlight key ideas as you read if it's a book you bought.
