So i'm going to "interview" a gal I know for a structured controversy paper i'm doing on same-sex marriage. she's in a civil union-type arrangement, and i want to ask her some good questions.
Any ideas?

Well, it's a "controversy" paper, no? It is kind of important to know what your direction is going to be to know what kind of questions to ask to get that information.
You could always ask why they chose to have a civil-union anything, as opposed to being domestic partners (no union or anything...)
Maybe ask how the experience of getting a civil union was? Did they encounter difficulties, prejudices, etc...?
Um, dunno what else...is she doing anything to fight to legaize same-sex-marriages in all states?
Sorry I couldn't be more help! :(

Maybe ask her about what she thinks the difference is between civil unions and marriage, e.g. whether she thinks it's important that same-sex unions also be called marriage or if just having the same benefits is the most important part. And maybe mention some of the specific reasons that some people are against same-sex unions and ask what her response to those would be.

Great question.... I would ask them these:
How they feel about Dating in general.
Living together/compared to civil/union situation. What are their views on marriage? Their views on society?
Do they feel any bias to their realtionship (perhaps hate or bigotry)? Do they find offense to any stereotypical labels?
Theif feelings on religion, family, children, parenting, perhaps workplace Issues?
