Got this from DH..

The Physical Training uniform has been approved by the CNO and is expected to roll out in the spring of 2008. By October 2008, all Sailors should have had an opportunity to buy at least one set of PT gear. Wind suit not due to hit the streets until October 2008. The complete set is approximately $50.

Roll out for the Navy Working Uniform is still on track for deliver during the summer of 2008 when they should be available at the Navy Exchanges. Roll out is a 24-month program and the adjusted clothing allowance will support the 24-month timeframe.

I'm confused though, will they still get to wear the $1,500 worth of uniforms that they just bought when they made Chief? :reallymad Because, if not, I'm gonna be :censored

I'm not impressed either. IN fact, I think the cammies are UGLY. :pukey

Jason was one of the people who did the trial testing for the new uniforms (the black and khaki ones) and he liked them alright, but still... I'm going to be highly upset if these uniforms he just bought will be going in the trash.

I do too! Utilities were my fav jr. uniform!!! I'm ticked because we just shelled out money on uniforms that we'll be having to add to and replace...

According to a friend of mine who is an Army wife, the new digital cammies suck, and the velcro on the pockets is crappy quality. I'm not looking forward to having to keep replacing them.

the material of the new army ACU's is not the best, but I love the wash n wear ability. DH was told that a pair should last about 6 months, none of his have worn out yet and it's been two years in January. I've only had to fix one velcro tab too. Plus, adding patches, changing rank, etc is sooo easy now.

Honestly, I just don't see the point to them for the Navy.:puzz. They don't blend into the surroundings like other Cammies do. They won't even blend in aboard ship.. so it can't be the Camoflage angle. kwim??? DH will be wearing them daily since they'll replace wash khaki..

I love the coveralls too, and how easy they are to maintain.. once every 6 months or so when he was E5 and below we'd replace coveralls due to paint or grease stains.. He's an EN so the biggest issue was having them smell like diesel fuel.. or having oil and grease embedded in the fabric.

Did you DH ever have a pair of those flame retardant coveralls??? Those things are completely pointless since they effectiveness is NIL after they're washed..

Not to mention (and I didn't know this until hubby got his uniform allowance Oct. 1st), new chiefs only get an E6 uniform allowance for the first three years that they are a CPO....THEN they get E7 Uniform allowance.

They get the initail clothing allowance, which is the nice big check, then they get an annual allowance each year. As a new CPO, they get it at the E6 rate for the first three years, then they get it at the E7 rate, according to the regs on the NEX website under uniform ordering. I guess this is because they figure they just got new uniforms and won't have to replace anything for a while....

The uniform change doesn't really effect us. Though buying new PT gear will make me a little unhappy. I'm hoping his command just gives that stuff to him like they were supposed to when we joined in here.
DH won't have blue cammies other than maybe one inspection set because he's a Seabee with the Seal teams. They have no use for blue cammies and tend to just have to keep one of each uniform in their closet with the exception of the stuff they actually use. I have probably 20 sets of woodland and desert cammies in our closet and soon we will have a whole lot of black uniforms.
Though as a side note, I will be sad to see the chokers go, I always thought they were hot. But I pretty much only see those at Balls. Oh for all of you that have men in coveralls, you lucky ladies. Coveralls scream sex to me. I know it's weird but they can be wearing nothing under them and you won't know until you unzip...Surprise!

I will hate to see Chokers gone. I know my husband is not at all happy with the uniform change and I don't blame him. They are taking away most of what makes a Chief stand out - khakis, the yellow pt shirts, etc. There is no distinguishment between the ranks other than collar device and the traditions of being in the Navy are slowly being taken away. Sad, sad thing.
