View Full Version : ADHD and the Navy Cat 11-02-2007, 05:08 PM Hey do any of you ladies have hubbys that have ADHD and are in the Navy and are on medication? I am just trying to find out what the Navys thing is on AD people being on meds for that if its necessary? Donna 11-02-2007, 05:12 PM DH is on 3 different meds for his anxiety. He got booted out of the rate he was in and had to pick a new one, but they didnt boot him out. Cat 11-02-2007, 05:14 PM well what if they are so close to retirement that they cant change rates? Devinn 11-02-2007, 05:15 PM everyone is going to have different opinions and what may or may not be FACTS on this as we've already seen from the Taylormysailor drama that unfolded here. Cat 11-02-2007, 05:17 PM everyone is going to have different opinions and what may or may not be FACTS on this as we've already seen from the Taylormysailor drama that unfolded here. well i never read that drama. I was just asking what the Navy policy itself was regarding matters like this. I dont just want opinions but I need facts unless thats different and varies depending on what meds you have to take and what your job is. Donna 11-02-2007, 05:17 PM well what if they are so close to retirement that they cant change rates? that i am not sure of. in the end it is going depend on his rate (if he is allowed to be on meds and work) and his command. Like before, DH was an AC. He had to have medical clearance to be on anything stronger than motrin. Cat 11-02-2007, 05:18 PM that i am not sure of. in the end it is going depend on his rate (if he is allowed to be on meds and work) and his command. Like before, DH was an AC. He had to have medical clearance to be on anything stronger than motrin. well right now I dont think he needs to be on meds because he hasnt had any problems at work so thats good. so maybe he should just live with it as it is and not worry about it. Donna 11-02-2007, 05:19 PM well right now I dont think he needs to be on meds because he hasnt had any problems at work so thats good. so maybe he should just live with it as it is and not worry about it. If he is close to retirment and he isnt having issues at work with it, i would just leave it alone and not take the chance. I am just trying to find out what the Navys thing is on AD people being on meds for that if its necessary? I just read another post somewhere that someone's hubs had ADD (what branch??) and they kicked him out!? if I recall correctly... Cat 11-02-2007, 05:23 PM well we just found out today that he has it but he is also super smart to and thats why he says he it doesnt seem to affect him at work. now me on the other hand thats a different story. LOL i need meds since I have been so scatter brained and disorganized in my head for the past 2 weeks. So I know I will be needing something to take. Cat 11-02-2007, 05:25 PM I just read another post somewhere that someone's hubs had ADD (what branch??) and they kicked him out!? if I recall correctly... well they wont kick him out if its not affecting his job which it hasnt since we just found out and he will be retiring in about 4 more years. This other person might have been kicked out due to other issues besides the ADHD but I havent read about that so I am not up on the story. But unless the guy was on meds then to me they shouldnt have kicked him out just because he has ADD unless it was affecting his job. Taressa 11-02-2007, 06:27 PM honestly it really will depend on the command, and what his medical review board says, if they want him out he will have go through medical review and they will get the final say. good luck if he isn't on medicatin i don't see it being a problem. Ashnbri 11-03-2007, 09:36 PM well right now I dont think he needs to be on meds because he hasnt had any problems at work so thats good. so maybe he should just live with it as it is and not worry about it. My DH has it and he hasn't had any problems with it..it actually helps him more with his job than anything. I think if he can handle it well and it isn't causing him problems then he should just wait until retirement and then if he wants to get on something then go for it..you never know what the navy will do :shrug |
