well if you're looking at private schools i went to saint pius(elementary and middle) and all of my sisters have gone there...it's a nice school....the academics where above all of the local public schools...when i finally transfered to public schools i was ahead of all the other students...st. gregorys(va beach) is also good....there is also holy trinity.....

with public schools...i think granby elementary is a good choice that or suburban pkwy or mary calcott....these for elemtentary...i've never gone to those personally but i've heard good things about them....

with middle school(public) i went to northside and i thought it was a really good school i'm really not sure about any of the others in norfolk for public cause i'm not a big fan of any of the areas they are in....

My boys go to Birdneck public in VA beach and i LOVE that school. my husband is leaving and they have a deployment group that they can go to, its with a guidence counseler and social worker, they love it helps them through this deployment, and gives them someone other than me to talk to about it, someone their age as well. my oldest is in the gifted resource room and i love his teacher. my youngest is in kindergarten and compared to what we are used to, they have small class sizes, ethan had almost 30 kids in his kindergarten class at one point i think there was 31, austin has 21. love his teacher. i love the school. the only reason we have purchased a home yet, is because we can't afford anything in the same school district that the kids are in now. i have heard to stay away from Green Run High school. though.

Stay out of the green run area schools ( I can't think of the names of them) Norfolk Academy is a nice private school. ummm I'm not a lot of help.. thats pretty much all I can think of since I don't have kids. Talk to Michelle B, she is a teacher at one of the schools in va beach, I just can't remember which.

There are a lot of good schools through out the cities. I do not like any of the Green Run schools or Plaza Middle School in Va Beach. The links below might help you in just looking at stats on the schools and how they rank

In smithfield Carrollton and Hardy Elementry's are great My kids are thriving in school and love the environment... Also they have recess everyday!!!! I know when my oldest was in NN schools and Hampton schools, he never had recess.... Kids need to get excess energy out...

Our children attend Rosmont Forest Elem. and Salem Middle in Va Beach and aside from a few things in the beginning of the school year I've been more than happy with them.

I personally won't let our children attend Green Run high in Va Beach. Other than that one school I would be happy taking them anywhere.

All schools in Virginia Beach are accredited, and most schools in Chesapeake and Norfolk are. This is overall a good public school system out here. It far exceeds those in California. Even Green Run schools aren't that bad. I was reading their standardized testing scores and they were above even my Daughter's school (Three Oaks Elementary, which is a good school) in a few subjects.

I am in Virginia Beach. Only thing bad I've heard about is Green Run High School. (N/A really) The local call is "Gang Run" High School.
