Nope. But be careful when pumping babies full of meds. It really should only be used when absolutely necessary.
Gassy as in he farts or burps alot? Or is he always fussy? Because it could be colic, not just gas.

I was always given the same thing you can buy OTC when kiddos were gassy as babies. :dunno

Some babies are just really gassy and it's something they just have to grow out of. Good luck girl

if you are still BF then sometimes the foods you eat will affect him too. kwim? My nephew is 2 and still has tons of gas, he has just always been that way.

Tummy time, and laying them on their backs with legs raised... help them wiggle and move their legs too.. it really works to get rid of gas!

Also you might want to try a warm bath and a tummy massage before bed.

have you tried gripe water? That's suppose to help with the gas.

I agree with all the other ladies, tummy time, cycling, tummy rubs, warm baths, etc.

I'm not sure a doc would give a Rx for gas for a 2 week old baby.

We do the tummy time and the massage, I just know he isnt feeling so good so it keeps him up...he goes for his two week appointment tomorrow.

Is he screaming in pain, or just crying? Cause babies cry, thats what they do :D Do you have a routine with him? Maybe that is what he needs. The gas meds you get from OTC are ok to use, they can be used mutliple times a day too. But you dont really want to go the RX route.

Babies are adjusting their bodies to live outside the womb, and they need to work those things out on their own. You dont want him to become dependant on meds, cause he will never learn on his own how to get rid of the gas.

And like someone mentioned, it could be what your eating as well. Since your BF. You can try to cut some things out, like dairy, and see if that helps, if it doesnt then move on to the next thing, like veggies. etc etc.

Do you give him a pacifier? Not sure if your into it, but I have noticed that Graycie gets rid of alot of her gas when she sucks on hers. And also when we lay her on her side, or swaddle her.

I would try to do as much as you can before resorting to meds.

Gas meds didn't work with dd when she had colic. I just had to let her cry. The vibrating bouncer worked a little. Also I would have to lay her stomach down on my arm (head in palm) and bounce a little up an down. It helped. He may just be trying to adjust to the outside world. It will get better!! I know how you feel though. Good luck!

it also could be an aversion to dairy. if you are BFing try cutting out all dairy and it should help in a couple days. if its formula try soy

Broccoli and peas make for a gassy baby who is breastfeeding as well.

I am not BFing anymore...It went down hill with all the stress I had recently...

It has to be something cause he will just cry for hours at night, saturday night my DH had to put him in the car to get him to sleep.

If he is formula feeding try dr browns bottles and soy formula. Tha'ts what I had to do for landen and it made a world of diffrence. They also have formula for gassy and colicy babies it's easier for them to digest. good luck

110% AGREE!!!

You should NOT unless your Dr. says, you're right. The amount of soy could be toxic to a baby's system if they are not in NEED of soy formula.

Jenny, gas is just part of what babies have. All babies have it and it's not easy to deal with it. The other girls gave great suggestions. Don't worry, once he figures out how to fart on his own- he'll be fine. ;)

Yeah I would not start him on soy either. That can start a whole new set of problems. My youngest DS was really bad with gas. It got so bad that he finallt stopped eatting all together and he was only 3 weeks old at that time. Soy made him a whole lot worst. His doc put him on Enfamil Nutramigen® LIPIL® and he was like a whole different baby. It was amazing. Good luck girl.

He may just be crying just to cry, KWIM? Madison would scream from about 9-10 until 1-2 every night. I fed her, changed her, tried gas drops, etc. There was nothing wrong with her, she just screamed for the hell of it. She's doing better now, she'll get fussy, but it's no where near what it was before.

I would do the pumping of the legs. That really helped my child. At 2 weeks, please don't push the meds. Don't start it out early. You might just have a collic baby. Call the Dr. if you are worried. Try another formula and burp more often during the feeding. Like after every ounce.

Just because he's crying doesn't mean there is something wrong.. he may just want to be held. That's what new babies do. If he is screaming in pain, that's different. Every one of my boys cried at night for ano reason, for a while. It's normal.

Most dr's will hesitate on meds. They don't like to give them unless absolutely necessary. Try Gripe Water. Most healthfood stores carry it (and I think Babies R Us too). We had a VERY gassy baby (to the point it used to wake him up and make him cry) and I got the Gripe Water because I was at my wits end. About 10 minutes after he was given some, he would let out a huge fart and be great. At about 2.5 months, he finally outgrew it. Another tip, keep him upright 10-15 minutes after a feeding. It will help the gas bubbles come up instead of going down. Anthony and I wound up taking quite a few naps together in my reclining rocker because we stayed like this and neither one of us could keep our eyes open.

your using dr brown bottles?

Maybe it is the bottle. I know that a lot of people say that their babies did great with the dr browns, but my dd has the worst gas when I gave those to her.
