View Full Version : Super Bug
DakotaCowgirl 11-06-2007, 01:50 PM I am putting this in here...just because.
Do you believe that we have become so reliant on medication that "we" have created the super bug? Do you also believe this is do to the over medication of our children with over the counter and antibotics?:confused
harrisonsdream 11-06-2007, 01:51 PM i believe our over use of meds in instances where perhaps we should just let illnesses run their course has contributed

:yes Some people take meds at the first sign of something no matter how small it is. For me I rather deal with it on my own until I can't take it anymore.

im just like you! id rather just take vitamins and ride it out until i really need some meds to get over something*
Becca 11-06-2007, 02:24 PM I think that too much antibiotics, paired up with too many antibacterial products have made conditions optimal for a super bug :yes
Yep.
It's all our fault. Just like everything else :rofl
annmarie 11-06-2007, 02:26 PM I believe that is exactly what has caused it, scientic evidence leans that way as well

DakotaCowgirl 11-06-2007, 03:27 PM Then why do we keep running to the Dr for everything?
LaneyBug 11-06-2007, 04:48 PM Then why do we keep running to the Dr for everything?
I can only speak for me, but over the last couple of years, I am very careful about what we go to the doctor for. We use a lot of home remedies to help with your average cold/flu. I think of anti-biotics as a last resort, or to treat the ailments that genuinely need them. It isn't something I was conscious of all along, but definitely something we are watching now.
harrisonsdream 11-06-2007, 04:52 PM yep laneybug
i know for me i will go to the dr. if it is something severe or something i am concerned about but i dislike mixing antibiotics with the other meds i'm on. not to mention i think alot of times drs. will write a script for something like a virus that can't be treated with antibiotics. i use alot of vicks vapor rub when i'm stuffed up or saline spray. i've become more aware since i've been preggo

Well, because "we" are not an educated society when it comes to this. People don't pay enough attention because people don't care unless they are directly affected.
LaneyBug 11-06-2007, 05:17 PM yep laneybug

Yeah, I wasn't specific in what we use, but we use a lot of Zicam, Airborne, and Vicks. The menthol bath is great for the kids with stuffy noses. Though, I don't know if it is safe for infants.
harrisonsdream 11-06-2007, 05:18 PM i've got infant vapor wash that i got in a medicine kit from babiesrus or some place like that. i'm hesitant to use the zicam stuff. but yep when i feel a cold i load up on vitamin c too
Cassaundra 11-06-2007, 05:21 PM Then why do we keep running to the Dr for everything?
be/c mine is hot!! *jk* Orange juice and sleep does better for me than pills do half the time unless it is allergies....then i take benedryl for a night.
LaneyBug 11-06-2007, 05:21 PM Zicam is just zinc. It is a little weird putting it in their nose, but my kids are used to it now.
harrisonsdream 11-06-2007, 05:23 PM ahh okay i wasn't sure if it was the same type thing as the hand sanitizer type stuff that actually had stuff in it
Yup. I don't do medicine, unless I absolutely HAVE to, and the same for my children. I do immunize because I do think it is more beneficial than not, but all the other meds and anitbiotics may be hurting in the long run more than it's helping.
dotb182 11-06-2007, 05:36 PM I definitely think its true.

I agree.
carmel11725 11-07-2007, 03:24 PM the "super bug" is MRSA staff, or something like that, right?
i don't know that we "created" it but i do think people seek meds way more than they need to.
also, my sis's b/f has MRSA...and it's gross. He thinks he got it from the operating room when he had surgery a month ago on his ankle.

Yep, that is the one. I don't know the stats, but it is on the rise. Kinda scary.

To me, super bugs like this most recent one are proof of evolution... ;)
