View Full Version : snoring
Taressa 11-11-2007, 12:02 AM i have two beagles and the male one snores like a flippin' freight train he is so SO LOUD we talked to the vet they laughed at us. but as he gets bigger hes getting louder. the female is actually chunkier so much she has to be on a diet, and she doesn't snore. what causes it? should i change their food? what can do it. i put like a pillow in his house and he just chews it. i move him around and he just looks at me flips his big ol' floppy ears and starts up again. the vet told us not to worry some dogs just snore just like humans. if it wasn't for the thought of having to rip off the breathe right strips we have entertained the idea of using them on him:dunno i don't know what to do with the pup.
crewchiefwife 11-11-2007, 12:03 AM my dog barks and cries in his sleep is scares the crap out of me
harrisonsdream 11-11-2007, 12:05 AM your vet is right, some dogs just snore. my english bulldog did it. my beagle (male) who's a bit chunky doesn't snore too badly but he grunts and yelps and growls and sometimes barks in his sleep
rosebud* 11-11-2007, 12:06 AM my mini schnauzer snores A LOT!! :giggle she isn't over weight, she just snores. some dogs just do that.
Taressa 11-11-2007, 12:10 AM you know its awful but they think they are cats and lay on the back of the couch. the big one isn't against the wall and from time to time one of them will be dreaming get startled and just fall off the back. its not a far fall, and i am just so used to them being allowed up there, even though i didn't want them on the furniture to begin with. anyway i can't seem to get them off that part of the couch. and the look on their face when they come back around. they look around to see if anyone saw them fall . its so funny. after a few times though they are more apt to get onto the back of the love seat that is up against the wall and they can't fall off it. when we got the first one she slept in our room. one night in our bed. i was not pleased! but she hates storms and she whined ALL night long. she has gotten better and stays in her house all night, they share the house, they actually won't sleep apart its very sweet. she is a fleece hound though she loves fleece blankets. such good dogs. although i caught her trying to get onto the table tonight. i wasn't too pleased with her. but they are SO stubborn.
harrisonsdream 11-11-2007, 12:11 AM beagles are EXTREMELY EXTREMELY EXTREMELY stubborn!
Taressa 11-11-2007, 12:12 AM so i guess breathe right puppy strips won't work then LOL their house is next to the computer and i am listening to him snore. i don't know how she does it. she is a better woman than me i would kick him out if i had to share a bed with him. she just moves him whatever way she wants to though LOL its cracking me up
harrisonsdream 11-11-2007, 12:13 AM lol aww.
crewchiefwife 11-11-2007, 12:14 AM i have a lab mix and labs are VERY stubborn they had to make special collars just for them (the prong collar) it gives an uncomfortable pinch so they stop pulling , labs are also supposed to feel less pain since they were used for rescues in cold water and being thrown out of helicopters...so when he knocks me on his ass he doesnt feel it i dont think lol
Taressa 11-11-2007, 12:15 AM i was so against crate training until we got beagles. i now firmly believe its the only way to train them. our female one failed puppy school! after like 4 weekends at pet smart and a small fortune later they were like sorry we can't help you! so we have tons of books on beagles. my DH believes since they are hunting dogs they need to keep that sense even though thats not what we have them for. so everyday he gets home, he takes a treat, we put them in their crate, he yells i let them out and out and they "track" daddy. well he will hide in our shower and they get the treat when they find him. well he is deployed now and needless to say i will go into my bathroom and find paw prints on the bottom of our stall shower!
harrisonsdream 11-11-2007, 12:19 AM we didn't crate train our beagle he learned super super fast.
i don't like the petsmart training classes.
Steph* 11-11-2007, 12:21 AM My toy rat terrier snores. She sounds like a squeaking mouse, it always freaks me out. :lol
crewchiefwife 11-11-2007, 12:24 AM haha have you read the book marley and me...his dog failed puppy school....i do crate training hubby didnt like the idea so we put him in the bathroom but he has abandonment issues so he tried to eat through the wall....(he did a pretty good job he got through the first layer) needless to say we have a crate now ;)
Taressa 11-11-2007, 12:27 AM abby ate my coffee table that is why she got crate trained and when we got the male one he had been crate trained. they actually do so well with it. i hated it at first but she did much better but we weren't like nazi crate trainers, only at bed time and when we were gone, now they sleep in their at night but its not locked and if we leave and maintance could be coming in for something they go in and i have to lock it. but if they don't have their "house" that is what we call it they won't sleep even if we just have their beds out of it they still won't sleep. we got the large dog one but i can leave it open and they go in when they are tired. it actually worked well. but i don't think its for every dog and wouldn't start training that way unless the personality said that was what was best for the dog. i guess i don't know if we crate trained properly or just used it for potty training and bed time, we didn't use it for discpline with them so i am not sure if its really crate trained more so as potty training ya know? but that is now their house and they are fully potty trained so its not secure or locked. with my DH gone i like them being able to be out if they want to be and loud at the door if they need to be KWIM? i know they aren't always the best guard dogs but they are super loud so i think that might help scare anyone off.
Taressa 11-11-2007, 12:31 AM i was NOT impressed with pet smart at ALL!! we would never use them again. the book everything beagle i think was the name of it really taught us a lot with the breed being as headstrong as they are. we learned to pick our battles with them. just like kids. other then the poop eatting, again we have tired EVERYTHING any suggestions there i am all ears, we have put the powder in their food, the pills the little drops they still eat their own poop!!
crewchiefwife 11-11-2007, 12:31 AM do you have squirrels in ur area? our toy fox terriers had to burn energy by chasing squirrels up trees... maybe u could try that
crewchiefwife 11-11-2007, 12:33 AM omg i dunno how my dog survived before we got him (he was a stray on the streets) but when i go to clean up his "presents" he keeps running off with peices like im stealing his gold...also my friend took her dog to be groomed at petsmart and when she got home she realized they cut off a corner of her dogs tongue :(
Amber V 11-11-2007, 12:39 AM I know how much you (L) those dogs. Good luck with all that stuff. :lol
Taressa 11-11-2007, 12:39 AM not anymore, when we were in great lakes we had cat size ones. HUGE squirrels they would just bark and bark at them. we live in housing so they have to be a leash at all times, but now we have a fenced in bark yard which is super nice, we gotten them a fence in great lakes for potty purposes we had a huge back yard and DH would take them into the field to play, one day Hunter took off after a coyote, that was SCARY! but here we have a nice bike path so i just walk them normally once or twice a week. our back yard is a good size plus they run around the house all day but we do walk them lots. hunter is 36 lbs he is a 15 inch, i am not sure if he is purebreed or not. Abby the female is 26lbs she is a little chunky we need to watch her a little more with the food. but she is a little more lazier we walked them so much when we got here she would hide from the leash she was like no way you go walk your damn self i am tired of this crap. LOL we have cut back because they both stepped on something possibly some glass and hurt their paws so we are letting it heal. we really aren't sure cause we didn't see it and they were both bleeding on their paws. not sure if they ripped a nail or something. i didn't deal with it DH did i can't do doggy pain. i freak out. lol.
Taressa 11-11-2007, 12:41 AM oh they do make me crazy the barking at everything pushes my buttons more so and amber hears it i walk into my bathroom and they have been in the damn shower! OH that urks my chain. i know its all sweet they are looking for daddy, i had to spray their bed with his colgone NO JOKE! after a few days of not smelling him they sit near his dresser waiting to smell his laundry! its insane they are so FLIPPIN' spoiled
crewchiefwife 11-11-2007, 12:42 AM we dont have carpeting and my dog just ran around the corner and slid into the wall lol he also always runs into the sliding glass door silly goose
crewchiefwife 11-11-2007, 12:44 AM oh they do make me crazy the barking at everything pushes my buttons more so and amber hears it i walk into my bathroom and they have been in the damn shower! OH that urks my chain. i know its all sweet they are looking for daddy, i had to spray their bed with his colgone NO JOKE! after a few days of not smelling him they sit near his dresser waiting to smell his laundry! its insane they are so FLIPPIN' spoiled
aww...my dogs the first dog i've ever seen actually use his doggy bed lol all my other dogs just layed on the floor :duh ur beagles sound funny lol my terrier used to jump in the shower to lick up the excess water cuz apparently it taste so much better than bowl water:suspect
Taressa 11-11-2007, 12:46 AM the male is ALWAYS in the toilet i put freaken ice chunks in their water so its ALWAYS cold. nope hes always got his nose in the toilet. so much i won't put those 2000 flushes things in their i am afraid he will get sick. and flush it 5 times after i clean it. for some reason i think 5 means its safe for him to drink if he wants to lol
VinnysGirl 11-11-2007, 12:47 AM My girls snore sometimes. I have a Ridgeback mix and a Lab/sharpei... they'll get going so loud though and I can't stop them. They sleep in a crate together under the window in our bedroom... so they are right next to the bed. I had to wake Maycie up one night because she was just so loud and I couldn't sleep.
Unfortunately.. they just do it! LOL!!!
Flat nosed dogs seem to be the WORST though! My parents have a pug and she has to sleep in the living room with a blanket over her kennel and all the bedroom doors have to be shut or she keeps the whole house up! LOL!!
crewchiefwife 11-11-2007, 12:49 AM my dogs scared of the bathroom now..ever since hubby put him in there and he tried to eat through the wall otherwise he would probably drink out of it lol to dogs that must be the best things next to ear rubs
Taressa 11-11-2007, 12:50 AM the snoring was so bad when we first got him, we took him to the vet thinking there was something wrong with his nose, we got him off a guy in housing his baby was allergic to them, so we didn't have much info on him, for some reason felt that since the first one was beagle she needed a friend when i started working. but the vet told us there is nothing we could do. i guess i was just hoping he would like out grow it and he so has not.
