Boris is really skinny, I bought him the same kind of food that his previous owner was feeding him, but he is not eating it. I bought him something different not eating that. He will eat other food, ie steak, sandwich meat stuff like that. but not his dog food. I know that right now he is too freaked out to eat with the other dogs constantly wanting to smell him and see what he is doing. I have tried keeping the other dogs outside, but that doesn't work he still doesn't want to eat his regular dog food.. soo Help please.

he is starving already, you can hear his tummy growling, so I know he is hungry. I didn't give him table food till this afternoon since he hadn't eaten in over 12 hours ( i know i know.. but i felt bad, he is skinny enough kwim)

Just be patient with him.. he'll eat when he's hungry.. he may look skinny, but he's got fat storage in that little body! Just be patient with him... maybe try feeding him in a separate quite place to start.. he just might be overstimulated!!!

try hand feeding him, adding cottage cheese to his food, maybe a little bit of canned food?

I tried hand feeding him the hard food, he just licks it.. I added the steak mixed with his crunchy food and he just ate around the regular food. My other doxie didn't like hard food either, only soft. :dunno maybe I will go and buy him some soft food to see if that helps him. He seems soo skinny I can see all his back bones and even his tail is bony. :shrug I just would be happy with any kind of eating at this point.

he is used to other dogs ( and kids), but our dogs are bigger than him, so I think that is freaking him out some. I don't think he is sick because he ate all the other things I gave him ( steak and some hot dog, sandwich meat and didn't get sick) I think my dogs are freaking him out, because like I said if he moves they are like what are you doing.. and then if he goes for his food they are smelling him and you can tell it bothers him.. He isn't the alpha dog that is for sure, because he submits to anything the other dogs want. I just want him to put on a few lbs because i think he is underweight for sure.

ETA I think i will try some rice and egg. he doesn't like the hard food at all because I mixed all kinds of things and he would just smell it and go away. kwim

my boss told me to give it three days. gwen didn't eat for 3 days. i put her food down twice a day and picked it up when she wouldn't eat it. on the third day, she ate. i know, it sucks watching them not eat for 3 days, but i suppose 3's the magic number! i hope he starts eating for you soon!

sounds like anxiety separation? animals like people can get freaked out if they are separated. really bad. just lovingly and soothingly help the new pet. hopefully in time he'll come around.

:thinking not sure why they aren't eating their normal food.

might be sooo stressed their not eating
:sadeyes

Belle didnt eat much for the first few days we had her. I think she was scared. I waited a week or two after we had her then changed her over slowly to Science Diet Small Dog Lab & Rice. Now shes so chunky that I am gaining muscles picking her up lol DHs coworker was over yesterday buying a computer off of us and he said "wow she got chunky" and he saw her a few weeks ago. She's just well spoiled lol

I'm glad he's eating. You might want to try and condition him later on into eating around others so he gets used to it. Maybe sit on the floor next to him and pet him as he eats. Thats what I did with Belle and she doesnt run away anymore (unless Tommy is walking up). Try Science Diet, it helped Belles coat be soft and shiny and got rid of her dandruff.
