Is anyone else on metformin to help cause ovulation and to help get you pregnant ? I have been trying to get pregnant for the last 2 years and the Army dr's finally decided to put me on the metformin to help regulate my cycles. I am also going for a pelvic u/s on April 4th. To see if there is anything wrong with my ovaries.

I am on metformin. I used it to conceive my son along with clomid. After 9.5 years of infertility the combo of metformin and clomid caused me to finally ovulate and I got pregnant with my son. I have PCOS so I am to stay on it to help with those symptoms.

I had taken clomid before and conceived and sadly had a miscarriage. My new Dr back in 04 had read up on PCOS, metformin and clomid and decided to try me on that combo. It worked. I tracked ovulation etc and my son was conceived the first month I was on it :)

I am so confused now. I am on Metphormin but it is for type 2 diabetes. I did a google search and it didn't matter how I spelled it, it is for diabetes. So how can it be used for ovulation?

It can cause ovulation. And it is widely used for women with PCOS. It IS for type 2 diabetes but is used for other things. If you read the side effects on the hand out it even states that it can cause pregnancy due to causing ovulation and to use protection if you do not want pregnancy :)

We have audited the first 39 patients with PCOS treated with Metformin in our Reproductive Unit. In this practice, as opposed to a research setting, there were often multiple factors contributing to infertility and they were usually proven resistant to other forms of treatment.

I have PCOS did metaformin...but couldnt hack it. Many women who went to our support group could. They also loved clomid. National Institutes of Health is where I was treated. www.nih.gov...great drs :)

I was on it and went off of it in Sept made me too sick. I decided to go off of it for a break time and in June I was suposted to take clomid and metformin together but in Feb we found out that I was pregnant .

how long did you have to take the metformin before you had a period. I haven't had one now in 60 days. And I started taking it March 8th. Today I started my new dosage of 850 mg twice a day. I am so tired of not having a period and also not being able to get pregnant. It bothers me so much that I have been wanting to get pregnant and with my daughter I didn't have a problem

I also always am having pain in my ovaries so I am not sure what my problem is.

What kind of doctor are you seeing? Have you had an HSG done to make sure there isnt any scar tissue blocking your tubes?

I takes a few months to get things going. Most women have a period on met after 3-6 months. So hopefully you will be ta the 3 month mark. The pain in your ovaries could be the starting of ovulation

i am seeing an OB/GYN right now. Haven't had the HSG done yet. I have had all sorts of blood work and am going for the pelvic u/s next week. And I am hoping that they will soon send me to a dr who can better figure out what is going on. I deal with ovary pain on a daily period. I know I need to get hubby's Semen Analysis but he wants me to get tested first before him. Because we know that I have problems.

If it takes 3-6 months for metformin to cause a period that means I wouldn't have had one for close to 6 months. And I know that's not good. The Major that I see at the hospital thought of putting me on birth control but she asked the dr and he said no to just go on the metformin. I am worried how long I can go without having a period though. Cause with my depo I never had one and I think that's what messed up my ovaries and is causing this problem that I am having now.

You can go 3-6 months with no period. Althouhg some women go years. They can give you provera which will induce a period. Which may help the met along some.

Thats weird about the semen anyalsis. We knew it was me but they still made my husband get one.

Don't give up hope. It took me 9.5 years to get my son here. But he is here (L)

I was taking Met. But it was killing my kidneys (not literally but pain wise.) I do plan on getting back on it here soon.

well hubby I don't think wants to be bothered getting the semen analysis right now. So he wants me to get it done first. I have been on provera before and that has caused my periods. I just don't like the fact that I am not having one.
