View Full Version : should I get a kitten?
Brittany Rashel 11-14-2007, 11:42 AM I want to get a pet, I really wanted a puppy but DB and I are moving into an apartment and probably will be in an apartment for a while and puppys are so hard to potty train in an apartment. So since I love cats and dogs equally I was thinking about getting a cat instead and get a puppy sometime down the road when we get a house. What do ya'll think?
phantomlotta 11-14-2007, 11:45 AM Get a cat. Especially since DB is not back yet. The puppy would be left all alone during the days if you have to leave, and let's face it - dogs get sad a lot quicker than cats.
I am a cat owner (have been a dog-owner most of my life) and I find dogs too sensetive. Cats are just so dang independent, but cuddly when you're around.
Good luck!
~Christina~ 11-14-2007, 11:53 AM i would def. get a cat/kitten...i love them (and dogs too) but they are also soooo much easier to potty train.....if DH liked cats i'd have one myself...
Wicked 11-14-2007, 11:55 AM Do it!! I am a total cat person. I can't imagine life without my kitties. I think I would feel bad if I had a dog and they didn't have a yard to play in, but with my kitties, the whole house IS their yard. LOL.

That's how I feel to. I think it would be punishment for a dog to live in a little apartment with no going outside except for walks. Cats don't need to run around alot.

:agree
TOTAL cat person. I love dogs, but I have enough kids :lol Cats are great cuz they are so independent....when they want love they will come to u...when u want love, they will give it. Dogs will just beg, and lick and stare at u, and they require leashes. :lmao
I have 3 cats....a solid black 1 year old baby boy, and 2 twin female siamese 6 month old kittens. They dont chew things, eat out of the trash, or pee or :poop on my floor :mrgreen

ryansgirl96 11-14-2007, 12:20 PM KITTEN!!!!!!! adopt from a shelter!!!
Miss B Hav'n 11-14-2007, 09:04 PM I am confused as to how it is harder to potty train a puppy in an apartment than another type of dwelling???
Anyway - as a cat person I say get the kitty!
jlbecker 11-14-2007, 09:11 PM i (L) kittens!
=Mrs.AiNokeA= 11-14-2007, 09:24 PM Get a kitten. :lovestruck DH and I have had our kitten for a few days and she is so sweet and much easier to take care of than a dog. They automatically (most of the time) go to the bathroom in the litterbox so you don't have to take them out to poop. I (L) cats. :wub

well maybe it wouldn't be but I'm not so fond of having to walk a dog to get them to go to the bathroom everytime they need to go out. If you're in a house then you just have to let them into the backyard... much easier for me. :D

I agree! :thumbsup
I used to have a dog that was confined to the inside because we had no fence around the back yard (rural area). Potty training him was a nightmare and he was soooooo destructive until he grew out of the chewing phase. And then, when we finally did feel comfortable enough letting him out, he got off of his lead and ran into the street and was hit by a car and killed.
Now I have FOUR cats... yep, I am a crazy cat lady. :screwy :giggle But all four of those cats combined have never done as much damage to my house or caused as many problems for us as that one dog did. I LOVED my dog, but scooping a littler box is easier than cleaning poop out of a yard, all four cats are cheaper to feed than the one dog, they are perfectly content and fit much better inside a house, and they aren't all needy and clingy which saves me from being constantly covered in animal hair.
And cats are totally entertaining. Get a laser pointer and watch em go... :lolsign

I don't think it's harder to train a dog in an apartment than it is in a house, I think it's harder to train a dog than it is a cat. LOL. With a cat, you scratch their paws into a litter box a few times and they figure it out. MUCH more complicated with a dog. KWIM?

LOL - glad I'm not alone. The running joke with DH and I is that I am "one dead husband and three cats away from being the crazy cat lady - just a matter of which comes first". In fact, that is my MySpace ID. We have five right now - and I wouldn't trade any of them for the world (well, this morning I might consider trading Rockstar Kitty, lol, he's in rare form today)

I love animals...very very much. I think it's good for a couple reasons. Adopt 1 or 2 from the shelter. Give a homeless animal a good home. It helps them, and you get a pet. Remember it's a pet, don't get bored, etc. I know you want one, but I've done rescue work. Don't just give up on them if they get bad, etc. and most importantly....take them with you when you PCS. We purposely did not get a dog, b/c of other country restrictions, quarntines, etc. and personally I could never sleep at night knowing I put them on a plane in cargo and they died (to hot, etc.) I hear stories where you can ship them, but do it early morning (9am flight, and make sure when you get on the plane, you stop by the cockpit and tell the pilot your pet is down there). Anyhow....that's why we got guinea pigs. we have 2 they are super cute and we love them. Easy to transport, we have pets, no need to worry about cargo - if there's an emergency some airline permit them and they can travel in coach section with you.
I think you should get one. They are cute.
