Have you tried Bank Of America? They only require a $25 deposit, and you can get a debit card that doubles as a Visa card. (It isnt like a regular credit card, you can only spend what you have in the account).
As for getting a credit card, your probably going to have to get a secure card. (Meaning you put a deposit on a credit card, and can only spend that much. Usually around $200)
you aren't a student are you?
sandykay 11-16-2007, 07:28 PM no I'm not a student, but just got my green card approved and issued with my ssn

I looked into them before and I was kind of weary about using it. I don't know I guess I worry things are too good to be true. I have things on my credit report that have been paid off but they still negatively affect me, and I want to know how to take those off. I still have some things that haven't been paid, and I will get to them (I know it was my fault I made the credit mistakes so I should have to pay and I don't mind) but once they are paid how to I get them to stop being a negative?

This is what I was about to ask, I have the same issues!

they have to run their course. there is nothing you can do to take those things off your report, usually they only stay on there a few years. Sometimes you can contact the company to see if they will take them off. Sometimes it works sometimes is doesn't

That's true. I worked one off of my credit report of about 20. :hehe Thankfully they are almost off now, because it's been 7 years. There is no magic tricks though, you just have wait for the most part! Most of the things that those companies offer are things that you can do for yourself for free. Sorry Tiff, not trying to debate this, but I just want to put that out there. It might be good for some people and might not for others, to each their own! :hugs
Loretta, when you go to pay off another one, trying negotiating with them and saying "I will send you a money order for the full price of this right now if you take it off my report". I got them to do it once. If they say they CAN'T, that's a lie. It's a matter of "they won't". If you have any things that are currently past due, I would contact them, let them know about your messed up pay (which you can prove to them) and let them know you are trying and ask for a bit of help. A lot of times they will work with you and that can keep new things from going on there. For old reports, if you contact them and agree to a payment plan, that can "restart" the seven years that it takes for them to fall off, so you need to be careful about that too! Good luck!
