How you yall feel about bootleg dvds?? Ive always been against them. DH came home from work today with the bootleg of American Gangster today, though, (borrowed from a girl at work) and i must admit that I am tempted to watch it. I havent yet, but its calling my name.......:confused (and from what ive heard its perfect quality)......okay back to watching Lifetime

I don't buy them nor seek them out. My MIL told me she was sending the kids and dh some DVD's and they were bootleg. Since she had already told the kids I kinda felt like the big bad mom for not letting them have them. ( they weren't new releases just those that were already on dvd) It's hard to say, I mean I used to download music from the internet too, so :dunno

I don't have any bootlegs and don't plan on ever having them. I usually don't buy movies anyway. I wait until they are available on Movies on Demand & buy them there to watch.

I've been known to watch copies of tv/movies online at work but I've never actually had a physical copy of a bootleg DVD. I guess in the long run they aren't much different but I feel a lot less guilty this way.

Yeah i know...thats kinda how i am. I guess its just bc its a movie that JUST came out and we were actually gonna go see this week at the movies :giggle I did put it in for a minute just to see the quality and its just like a normal dvd widescreen version. perfect picture (not like the guy who takes it with a video camera in the theatre while asking his friend to pass him popcorn and the persons head in front of him :lol) Its just a normal dvd movie. Weird.

yep, I'm guilty as charged. When DB and I are in New York we like to get bootleg DVDs from the venders in Chinatown, you get like 8-10 DVDs for $20

I am against them and I will not support anyone doing those things. That is me though.

We will not own any bootleg movies, cd's or the like. Thats a huge no no for us. We both agree that money is being taken away from everyone involved in the production of these things. Right down to the little no name guys and gals in the smallest of prints. When I used to play pc games with hubby we'd buy 2 of them so I could play and he could play. It was worth it to spend the extra money to us rather then copy it and use it :shrug

Never, never, NEVER with music. Occasionally we'll download a movie, but not independent films.

I guess since I know people who do make a living in those industries it really doesn't hurt my feelings to take a few dollars away from the multi-billion dollar giants. Taking from the little guys, though, is just mean.

Yeah, they're both illegal, and it's a dumb justification, someone come arrest me. :lol

I saw that copy online and it was excellent quality. They leaked it before the movie even came out, which was pretty crappy, IMO. I'm pretty sure that movie lost half its audience because of the leak.

Legally you can make a copy of something you bought for your own use. You are not allowed to copy it and sell it or share it but you may copy it for yourself. For example you buy a music CD and upload the cd to your PC and then down load songs form various cds you have uploaded making your very own mixed cd for your own use ALL perfectly legal. So you don't have to buy two video games if it is only going to be used for you in your home and not shared with other people.

I don't buy boot legged DVD's or music anymore. Way back in the day when I was onboard my first ship I bought mad amounts of CDs when ever we pulled into Thailand. Of ourse I didn't really know what boot legging was back then either. I have never downloaded anything to me the reward is not worth the risk and the punishment if I get caught.

My DH told me that in Kuwait you can purchase bootlegged DVD's and Music on base because the vendors there sell them. I found that to be ironic since a huge tado was made in the states about not buying bootlegged products (from DVD's to purses) because it funds terrorism.

If you want something so badly that you're willing to steal to get it, even though you can well afford it, perhaps you should seek counseling.

If it's the thrill of doing something illegal, you need help.
If you think you're "sticking it to the man", you need help.
If you would rather see it at home and not risk going out in public to see it, you need help.

But I don't care for them so I stopped watching. The poor quality drives me insane.

It's theft and the same as walking into a store and stealing the cd or dvd IMO.

When DH was in Bahrain he said they had a DVD store in the mall where they sold bootlegged movies.

I listened to one black market tape way back in the late 80's....my brother brought it back from Bahrain.

Other than that I know that there are lega ways to buy these movies before they ever make it to video and that is the way I would go.

Yep there is... DH brought a few back from Dubai :no... and we've since gotten rid of them because they were crappy quality.

Us to. I hated them because of the crappy quality. I tried to watch the Devinchi Code(sp) and all the subtitles were in arabic so I turned it off and threw it away. Rented it when it came out.LOL

.

True. But we'd rather buy the 2 copies to support the company since we would both be using it

i don't do the bootleg movie thing. i'd rather buy the special edition and see all the behind scene stuff. not moral reasons, just my own. i do download music but not whole cds. just stuff I can't find on itunes or in stores. i don't really care one way or another who buys them and who doesn't. all the overpricing alot of these companies do anyway make up for it.

Since DF is now home from overseas we have TONS of bootlegs.. I guess that is what you can call them.. He bought them over in afghanistan so they would have something to watch.. Not bad is it?

I HATE bootlegs. Jason used to bootleg movies all the time and I refused to watch them and hounded him about being a thief/pirate. He doesn't bootleg anymore. It's stealing.
