USNIwife 11-20-2007, 06:32 PM if your DH is in town, have him go with you to DEERS and sign up so get it. When you PCS somewhere there is normally a local "tri-care" office. to change your info from one location to another. I know where our local tri-care office is here local to this command.
:goodluck
.x.MiSS.LADi.x. 11-20-2007, 06:40 PM he's not here! he just left for Boot camp a few days ago....
he'll be baq X-mas 4 two weeks....should i wait that long for him 2 get here though?
gss1981 11-20-2007, 06:40 PM I know for us, DH went into DEERS and had to register and then send us the form to get an ID. He was stateside.
MIKOSWIFEY 11-20-2007, 06:41 PM He will fill all that paperwork out at Boot, then you will be mailed the info.
.x.MiSS.LADi.x. 11-20-2007, 06:43 PM okay thats what i was wondering!! thank you sooo much! we've only been married for a month lol & he just joined...its all soo confusing!!
Loretta 11-20-2007, 07:17 PM i did it myself when DH was in basic. You need to wait until you get the packet in the mail...should be a few weeks after he leaves.
Take that packet to the nearest DEERS office(google it...I went to an Air Force base and my DH is army, it doesn't matter so long as it's a DEERS office!). Make sure to also bring social security cards for yourself and the child.
That's it, it doesn't take but a few minutes.
Margaret 11-20-2007, 09:02 PM If your son is not your hubsands than he has to be on his page 2 and you need your marriage certificate, and hyour sons birth certificate and SS card. Good Luck:D:D Oh btw you have to have POA
Loretta 11-20-2007, 09:04 PM I didn't have POA until after, and it didn't matter. :puzz Unless you mean about having a child from another father? I don't even know how to begin with that one, so maybe!
Margaret 11-20-2007, 09:08 PM Because I added my son I had to have a POA because my hubby wasn't there not sure?:dunno
Loretta 11-20-2007, 09:18 PM Because I added my son I had to have a POA because my hubby wasn't there not sure?:dunno
Gotcha! :yes She should have no problem adding herself without a POA though,I'm almost 100% sure. I got all confused for a minute there. :giggle
.x.MiSS.LADi.x. 11-20-2007, 09:19 PM yeah i have POA...we got it before he left so i could deal w/ the car & mva without paying to be put on the title..lol...& he has me n my son's ss birth certif. & our marriage L's...

If they hadn't made copies of that stuff before he left(which they should have)then they wil lsend those back to you in the packet after they make copies, I bet.
.x.MiSS.LADi.x. 11-20-2007, 10:13 PM His recruiter made copies of everything before he left but he took them still...& i made copies to have while he has the real ones...but they DONT have the POA bc we got that days before he left...:arg

call your local DEERS office. Explain the situation, have them mail you the form. If you need to get this activated before than. Get in your car and go where they are, take your POA with you, fill everything out and get this activated so you have medical girl. :goodluck
IWwife 11-20-2007, 11:20 PM If he has a copy of the birth certificate he can do it.. UNLESS you have a POA (power of attorney) you won't be able to do anything.....

good point. I hope you have the POA.

The POA is just for you they wouldn't need a copy of it because that is for you to handle your business. If your dh has the originals he will need to either A) enroll you guys himself or B) mail them back like Loretta said. with out originals they won't enroll. But I do suggest calling the nearest DEERS office to see what is what and perhaps you can get by if he is in the system.

hey that's true and remember the POA when copied is as valid as the original. be very careful with your POA

Proud Wife 11-20-2007, 11:57 PM All you really need is your own military id. Talk to your hubby's recruiter and ask where the nearest place is to get your military id. Once there, all you need is his ss# and they can get an id for you. Then you can take him to any clinic that accepts tricare (allina is a good one here) and show your id as proof of insurance. You and your ds are automatically covered in their basic Tricare progam while he is active, but you can enroll in Tricare Prime which is supposedly better coverage. When you go to get your id, ask about the forms and they can get them for you. I finally filled ours out and I had my cards in just over a week.
Good luck!

You can get your ID as long as he is in basic and past zero week. You can go to the nearest base and get it done. Then you can be seen at any Military hospital( if you are close) If you can get an ID then you are in DEERS. ( your son won't need one since he is young, he works off yours and your dh's ss. The only thing is though sometimes not having the actual marriage license can sometimes throw kinks into your plans. Really it A) depends on who is manning the desk at the time. and B) whether they feel like helping or not. how long has your dh been in boot camp?

unless it's a certified copy, then no not really. He will also have to be processed I believe before you can begin receiving benefits. Unfortunately it's not like ok sign here and there are your medical cards. So it can take a week or more. You can see if you qualify for the time being state health care, since you are technically not making any money.

i do...but they "accidentally" stopped me & my sons [even before we got married] & i just didn't wanna go through them again...
*Dawn* 11-21-2007, 03:30 PM he will have to get though processing before anything and he should mail you the DD1172 so you can get your ID and that will also add you to DEERS then you can call Tricare and get into Medical. Its not a quick process we are talking about the military and with the holiday it could even be longer. My dh went to boot on Dec 12th and he didn't get done with processing until after the New Year..of course this was back in 2000..lol boy was it a LONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG wait! just be patient it will come......if it doesn't then ask his recruiter. and he should be able to help you out.
