View Full Version : First phone bill
68W-LVR 11-25-2007, 09:19 PM So I just looked at the credit card bill today. DH was using it to call home for the few days it ended up taking to get to Kuwait. HOLY CRAP!!! $300 and I bet we talked 6 times and a total of 20 minutes in 2 days. Yikes. And that was Ireland, not Iraq.
ashley5 11-25-2007, 09:20 PM :freakout
OMG...i'd get that changed right away!
68W-LVR 11-25-2007, 09:21 PM No kidding. Damn airport phones. His calling card wouldn't work there for some reason.
Loretta 11-25-2007, 09:25 PM Oh,damn! :scared
:hugs
When I moved to Italy I call my sister from the stop in Ireland for like 1 or 2 mintues and it was like $70. Its crazy!
Cassaundra 11-25-2007, 09:44 PM i don't have any complaints with the UK. but i did use their phone cards and it was pretty cheap. but i hope that is a mistake!
dotb182 11-25-2007, 09:44 PM I know exactly how you feel, earlier this year when my db was in italy and bahrain he was always on that phone and we ended up paying 300-400 extra every month...
MissJasmin25 11-25-2007, 09:47 PM omg! my phone bill for this month is going to be in the 600 range!!! I have to call tmobile and see if they will pitty me and reduce some of the charges.
i know this sucks:(
cheerkelly 11-25-2007, 09:53 PM OMG! When he gets to Iraq, have him get one of their cell phones (I told you about that in a PM earlier). He just buys the phone cards for the phone, and then he can call you (and you can call him if you get an inexpensive international calling plan). It comes out way cheaper than using a credit card or calling collect.
Wow! That's one heck of a bill! You know you're thinking that every minute spent talking to him was worth the money though! LOL!
lacy+chk 11-25-2007, 09:53 PM yikes!!! :(
Devinn 11-25-2007, 09:56 PM u or him...go here:

We talked about Vonage but I guess he is going to have really crappy communications so we weren't sure how well the internet phone would work. Does anyone have much experience with trying to use it?
Becca 11-26-2007, 10:08 AM We have Vonage, we've had it for a couple of years and it works really well for us - unless our internet goes out, then everything forwards my cell. Our internet is pretty reliable though. SOMETIMES there is a bad connection - maybe once a month - but usually if I just hang up and call back it's cleared up. I haven't attempted international calls so I really can't give you any feedback on that.
Jennifer 11-26-2007, 10:13 AM my DH used our version of vonage when he was in kuwait, it was fine once they got comms running in his area. He changed bases mid tour and the new barracks there had no comms in the barracks. We also use it at home now and it's great for calling america!

Call me stupid! No don't do that.
I think the phone companys should give better rates for military people.
