View Full Version : Iraq equipment
I'm thinking of getting Mike some stuff for his deployment. I was going to get him a camera, but his mom already got him one and a laptop. He gave me some websites (Blackhawk, etc) to get some clothing/equipment for him. What are some things your SO needed/needs in Iraq? If you don't know, could you ask your SO for me, pretty please?
Thanks ladies! Any help would be awesome
Laurie119 11-25-2007, 11:07 PM Underarmour tee shirts, both hot weather and cold weather. I bought him his K-Bar knife for Christmas.
lacy+chk 11-25-2007, 11:09 PM i got DF some tool sets, like wrenches and a gerber knife with like 20 different tools on it...umm...does he have a PS3 or other gaming system? that was a big hit!
good luck!
leftover 11-25-2007, 11:11 PM DH always asked for boxer briefs by underarmour.. He said they were the only think that kept his balls of his thieghs when he ran..
He also wanted a pillow and sheets right away and a warm blanket..
ArmyGirl 11-25-2007, 11:11 PM Dh hasnt needed anything yet, he said before he left he would tell me if I needed to order anything to send him, like extra uniforms or things like that, the only thing he has asked for is socks... but as far as like tools or things like that, he hasnt needed anythign other than what was on his original packing list
*MarineBug420* 11-25-2007, 11:11 PM A smaller knife that can go on his cammies. Always in need of T shirts for under his cammies. Thicker socks. He loves his Doctor scholls boot inserts becuase he is always on his feet. He also loves his sheets (target $7.00) and a blanket. a nice flashlight
Britt 11-25-2007, 11:16 PM Surgi Sheers - professional, medical sheers to cut through clothing. They're supplied with them, but his own special pair would be nice (and probably better quality).
Definitely the underarmour t-shirts too.
*MarineBug420* 11-25-2007, 11:20 PM P.S. If your man works in any kind of ordinance he isnt aloud to wear underarmour...go for a brand called Chillies

He is with 2nd Light Armored Recon. that's all I know.
web cam for his laptop if it didn't come with one, playstation and games, calling cards, the cooling vest and helmet insert.
MissJasmin25 11-26-2007, 12:15 AM DH is constantly asking for Boots. His feet are sooo important to him. oh god.
Britt 11-26-2007, 12:18 AM Oh! A decent watch with a second hand on it. It HAS to be flat black for minimal chance of reflecting.
Also, some decent sunglasses (also flat black).
firepmed 11-26-2007, 12:49 AM I made sure he had an ipod. It is small and he downloaded tons of stuff on it. He uses it everyday. I also made sure he had alot of bug spray. The ones with the most deet I could find in it.

That's a good idea... DH had one with a digital compass on it..
Britt 11-26-2007, 10:09 AM Well, he's a corpsman, so he needs a watch to do vital signs. :yes
mpicky 11-26-2007, 10:21 AM Unless you guy sits behind a desk in Iraq, please do not buy UnderArmor shirts. Only buy things that are natural fiber, that includes socks. Nothing synthetic at all. i don't really want to type why, but it is important.
My SO got better knee pads, gloves, maybe more of the compartment things that strap onto their vests.

Thank you! He's mentioned gloves and a pouch thing for his medical supplies, so I think I'm definetly going to get those. Mike is a corpsman so he definetly won't be sitting behind a desk. I thought the UA shirts would be nice because they are breathable. You can PM me the details about natural fiber if you feel more comfortable.
Thanks so much everyone. :hugs

This is by far one of the most accomodating sites to purchase from. They have been MOST helpful to DH.
Julianne 11-26-2007, 03:17 PM Definitiely underarmour undies & shirts. Get the real underarmour stuff. DB says it really is better than the generic stuff.

I'm hearing that Underarmour is bad to wear over there.

Because its flammable right?
Because its flammable right?
I think so, and it melts and can cause a lot of damage if ever in a very bad situation where there may be explosions. I never knew it before so I think it's important to know..it's not exactly a good thing to think about. Sorry :(

One comment on underarmour...I think (I hope I am not speaking out of order so you'll have to research it) is flammable because of the synthetic it is made from. Like some fleece it will melt and adhere to the body in extreme heat (not great in a warzone??) I think that they make some similiar material that is mreo heat resistant or flame retardent or something...I would inot that. Doe she have ballistics glasses?? Will they issue him those? My man said he was issued everything he needed...BUT he did buy a really great new pack before he left. How about maybe a webcam if he expects to have internet access.

They still have to do their PT though... My hubs was a TC on a Humvee crew, and he wore Underarmor when he was at his FOB, or working in the garage... Sure they don't wear it while out on missions, but they still have to do their mandatory PT daily...
DH went through alot of UA because the Hajis always stole it out of his laundry.
