View Full Version : USO/morale boosting Tours
Chevy_Gurl 11-26-2007, 04:37 PM What are your opinions of them?
Should they only be limited to non "sexual" types, ie concerts, comedy shows, movie releases. Should the women that are invited over not be allowed to dress in certain types of clothes?
Should the military not put money into tours like that and spend it on getting service members with their families more? Any other ideas?
ArmyGirl 11-26-2007, 04:39 PM I think its a good idea. I have no problem with them. I hope DH gets to see something like that while he is there.
MelissaMc424 11-26-2007, 04:39 PM I love the idea of it, and I think that they do wonders for the morale of the troops. DH's been to a couple, and had a couple of celebs visit the ship he was stationed on..
People misconstrue them and those who volunteer to go over there to entertain.
harrisonsdream 11-26-2007, 04:40 PM i think they are a good idea. anything can be construed as sexual.
DakotaCowgirl 11-26-2007, 04:40 PM Instead of spending money on things like stars or artist going to see them, they should spend more on contact with family, communications, and keeping them alive! If those stars or artist want to help support the troops, they can spend their millions to go see them.
To them it is just another $$ maker in my opinion.
mrskmw 11-26-2007, 04:41 PM I think they are a good idea. It's to bad that some are so insecure that they see it as a threat. It's a morale booster for them and I think they deserve anything that could be entertaining and keep their minds off (for a little while) of what they are living with
lisa0323 11-26-2007, 04:43 PM I think USO tours are great and a great morale boost for the service men and women.
I don't think they need to change anything from how it is done right now.
I think anyone who volunteers to go is doing a great service, regardless if they are a rock band, cheerleaders or actor or whatever.
brentscrystal 11-26-2007, 04:43 PM These tours are invaluable and have been going on for ages. I totally believe that they should continue on... if there is content/performers that are questionable to some, the service member doesn't have to attend.
I met Alex Trebec (sp?) and some legends of baseball while I was on a Med Cruise. It was an awesome experience! (I met Tug McGraw, Tim's dad)
Aundi 11-26-2007, 04:45 PM Yeah, I think there should be no sexual things please:D Why do they want to torture a bunch of already horny men:vent
I just saw the closed cheerleader thread. Somehow I overlooked that one. I wouldn't be happy about cheerleaders :blech
rosebud* 11-26-2007, 05:07 PM Honestly I think they are great. and anything can be construed as sexual. It makes for great memories, stories and pictures. I do think that the people who go overseas are doing it for free or a minimal cost. They aren't making money off the guys as the concerts and what not are free to the troops and families ( they do do local stops and places where families are)
Cassaundra 11-26-2007, 05:18 PM Instead of spending money on things like stars or artist going to see them, they should spend more on contact with family, communications, and keeping them alive! If those stars or artist want to help support the troops, they can spend their millions to go see them.

ITA!! i think the money would be better spent in raises, communications, more R&R...JMO
Brandi 11-26-2007, 05:21 PM A few years ago, it would have bothered me, only because I was extremely insecure with our marriage and I also had security/esteem issues just with myself. I can remember when someone flew onto the JFK while they were deployed, I think it might have been the dallas cheerleaders but it made me so upset I could have spit fire :rofl It was just because of the fact that I felt extremely envious though and that was MY issue, not their cheerleaders.
Now that I'm more secure with our marriage and have more self esteem, and I've had the chance to grow, it doesn't bother me anymore.
Though, I can understand how some people would be bothered by it, it's just not something that really gets to me that much anymore.
rosebud* 11-26-2007, 05:22 PM ITA!! i think the money would be better spent in raises, communications, more R&R...JMO
The USO does things. Like emergency housing, support groups, help when you get stuck at the Airport. the concerts and what not are just a small portion of what they offer. R&R actually comes from how much leave you have on the books, it has nothing to do with the USO. and there are rules to R&R such as you have to be deployed more than x number of days. those are Military issues not USO issues. USO is meant to uplift the morale and spirits of the troops. give them a day away from being away from their families and people trying to kill them.
flangl18 11-26-2007, 05:22 PM I think USO tours are great and a great morale boost for the service men and women.

I agree. The intent behind them are good and my husband has always enjoyed them for those good intentions. His favorite over the years was when he was in Diego Garcia and Gary Sinise came out there with his band. He hung out with him afterwards and drank beer and Gary was such a great guy with the troops.
flangl18 11-26-2007, 05:24 PM The money from the USO cannot be used for raises...the funding is through private, non-profit fundraising.
April 11-26-2007, 05:27 PM These tours are invaluable and have been going on for ages. I totally believe that they should continue on... if there is content/performers that are questionable to some, the service member doesn't have to attend.

ITA with the above.
sexual? for real? I've never heard them advertize they sent a whore house. :lol It's sad that is what people believe is going on :no
Cassaundra 11-26-2007, 05:29 PM well ok then i thought the military had something to do with finance part of the USO....but hearing input from friends and a couple of family members who are serving in Iraq right now, these guys see the cheerleaders as a nuisance. My cousin said he would much rather just have a band come or a good comedian. he hates it when the cheerleaders come and doesn't usually go to see them. So after hearing their input I would rather the USO send GOOD entertainment that would actually serve the purpose they are trying to achieve. And yes I am aware they DO send bands and whatnot.....just repeating from letters.

it's not just about who they send, it's about which bands respond and can come. Usually it's the cheerleaders because they can go when they are needed. Bands, comedians, people like that are constantly on tour so conflicts with schedules arise. Also the USO contacts all kinds of artists, some don't want to or don't care. so that is on the them not the USO.
USCGBoxerMom 11-26-2007, 05:38 PM Alot of the performers, actors and even those hated cheerleaders (:no) go over there with out charing a penny to the USO so they don't make money off the event, they do it to maybe make a soilders day. All the USO money is done by private donation.
If your so freaking worried about it, tell your DH/DW/DF/DB/DG not to go to the Moral shows, he may sit in the boat miserable while the rest of the crew enjoy the show, but at least you will comforted in the fact that some slutty cheerleader/actress/singer is not trying to seduce your DH/DB/DF what have you.
Those people are not there to get laid by a soilder, they are there to show their SUPPORT for them.
April 11-26-2007, 05:39 PM I'm thankful for anyone willing to take their time to support the troops be it Toby Keith or cheerleaders.

I personally dont care who goes....I just know what MY people have said they would like more. But I guess since the "ladies" are more accessible (i.e. have less to do with their "careers") they would be sent more. I do think if the above was more explained to other threads like this there might have been a little less frustration. I didn't know and my guess would be some of the other ladies didn't know either.
ArmyGirl 11-26-2007, 05:40 PM I'm thankful for anyone willing to take their time to support the troops be it Toby Keith or cheerleaders.
Thats how I feel. Im just happy that people want to go over there and spend their time trying to being some good cheer, and getting their minds off of things.

:five :yes
All those people that go over than can get laid anywhere. They dont go for sex!
There are men AND women already over there. They do not need a famous person to get a little.
Donna 11-26-2007, 05:42 PM well ok then i thought the military had something to do with finance part of the USO....but hearing input from friends and a couple of family members who are serving in Iraq right now, these guys see the cheerleaders as a nuisance. Just because those you talked to didnt like them, doesnt mean all dont. DH doesnt care who is coming, he goes to get his mind off the million and one things that he needs to get done. Gives him a break to clear his head and get back to work.
I honestly dont care who goes. Cheerleaders, bands, whatever. They are kind enough to accept the USO's invitation so they all get a kudos from me.
sunshyne 11-26-2007, 05:44 PM if they send cheerleaders to boost the guys morales...what/who do they send for our women troops? :giggle
I could care less....10 years ago it would have bothered me though. I can understand why some don't like it.

Chip and Dale dancers :rofl

Somen of the "ladies" you think have less to do with their "careers" have you actually looked at a website for the cheerleaders? Do you realize they are more than just gilrs that shake a pom pom? They are Accountants, teachers, Data Analysis, Lawyers, Pre-Med students, dance instructors......they hold REAL careers on the side of their cheerleading.

:agree
I think it is a wonderful program. I wish DB was going to be a ship so he could go to one (no cheerleaders on subs I don't think ...too bad for him :lol) WHOEVER it is that volunteers to go and support the troops gets kudos from me.
USCGBoxerMom 11-26-2007, 05:47 PM if they send cheerleaders to boost the guys morales...what/who do they send for our women troops? :giggle
HOT country singers.....:drool

People can be against sending cheerleaders without thinking they are there "trying to get laid" or are there to "seduce military men". I think they are professionals and I am not THAT shallow to think that those women aren't totally mature and respecting of our military members:confused That is not AT ALL why I'm against it! Why does everything have to go that way, just because someone has a difference of opinion.
I think the problem w/ those that don't like it is that they fear their SO is finding those women more attractive/sexual than them. But you know, if its in your SO to be that way- he'll be like that even if your walking down the street w/ him, holding his hand and a pretty girl walks by! :yes
I wouldn't have a problem b/c of exactly what I said above...but yeah, I would get jealous (although I'd keep it to myself after making one sarcastic comment :D) just b/c I don't particularly feel that great about my appearance, right now.

Than exactly why are you against it? :confused
Wicked 11-26-2007, 05:53 PM I think they are great. Morale is SO important to deployed troops. I also don't mind the sexual stuff. Why should the single soldiers and responsible married soldiers be punished because some married people can't behave like adults? Like others have said, ANYTHING can be construed as sexual. And if they want a sexy starlet to go over there and the side effect is some select few service members "takin' care of business" afterward, I could care less. LOL.
Shaky 11-26-2007, 05:55 PM I'm greatful of this people taking their time to support our military. I'm not against it at all either if it's chearleaders, comedians or a concert.
Now I do think, if I'm willing to do it, would they allow me to go and chear the service men and woman? ok ok maybe they wont be as excited for me as for Jessica Simpson for example but I think about that. I think it would be super nice if they help at least one family member per deployed to meet him/her on port or somewhere wherever they are :D
Becca 11-26-2007, 05:55 PM What are your opinions of them?
Should they only be limited to non "sexual" types, ie concerts, comedy shows, movie releases. Should the women that are invited over not be allowed to dress in certain types of clothes?
Should the military not put money into tours like that and spend it on getting service members with their families more? Any other ideas?
If it makes the soldiers happy and lets them hoot and holler for awhile, I'm all for it.
I do wish there was something for female morale also...but somehow I don't think the chippendales would be very well received :giggle
And no, it doesn't always have to be a sexual thing, but I don't have problems with the fact that it often is. These performers/entertainers are not out there to perform sexual favors.
lisa0323 11-26-2007, 05:57 PM Somen of the "ladies" you think have less to do with their "careers" have you actually looked at a website for the cheerleaders? :yes
And I don't think they get paid to go on those USO tours, so they volunteer their time and efforts, which I think is commendable.
The Dallas Cheerleaders came to DH's ship one deployment, and he enjoyed it, it was a welcome break from work and I'm glad he got it.

Becca 11-26-2007, 06:00 PM I think the problem w/ those that don't like it is that they fear their SO is finding those women more attractive/sexual than them.
I kind've have to agree with this analysis, Rach. Not that it is entirely the issue here, but I can see how it could be. I know that the bottom line is, there will ALWAYS be someone out there more attractive or more sexual then me - lucky for me my husbands brain isn't located in his pants. :dunno
ArmyGirl 11-26-2007, 06:05 PM I just dont understand the big deal... these people are trying to help, and try to show their support..

I'm trying to find the right words to describe. They are not coming to me so that I can make anyone understand it. I will keep trying to think of a way to put it out there for others to understand. Maybe in the end it's just something that can't be explained, since it's such a personal feeling or opinion for me :dunno
I'm second guessing even opening my mouth. ALL women against it are apparently just afraid that their dh is gonna cheat or find other women more attractive....or they are just insecure twits:no
I can assure that none of those things are it.........but I'm sure since I can't come up with the right words to describe that must be it :bs
I know that the bottom line is, there will ALWAYS be someone out there more attractive or more sexual then me - lucky for me my husbands brain isn't located in his pants. :dunno
I battle w/ this one...How dare anyone be better looking than me :lmao
Miranda 11-26-2007, 06:20 PM I think its great. I think even regualr people who are here not serving get excited if we see a celebrity up close "in real life". Its the same for them. I mean even if its porn stars going over there its not like they are gonna lay down on a bed and invite ppl to come do their thing :giggle its entertainment, and it occupies their time. It is much easier to entertain a hundred people with one star entertainer than it is for those same 100 ppl to be able to have contact home. They are able to make more ppl happy this way, rather than just a select few.
Becca 11-26-2007, 06:21 PM I battle w/ this one...How dare anyone be better looking than me :lmao

well, I wish these women would tell me some of their secrets to have so much time that they can be a lawyer or another time consuming career that uses all your time, energy, and resources and have time to shake pom poms. Give me THAT secret please! But geez what do I know since I am not as seasoned at this whole miltary wifey thing......JMO on the matter...

I think I missed something here. Where did this come from? And what bearing does your time as a military wife have on your opinion of USO tours? Where did anybody throw in length of time as military spouse? What the???
:confused
I am SO lost :roflmao

Cassaundra 11-26-2007, 06:27 PM this whole arguement is stupid.....the ones of us who think cheerleaders shouldn't be sent are getting beat by the ones of you guys who don't care. the yes people are not going to change the no people's minds. the no people are not going to change the yes people's minds....therefore there really is no point to this arguement at all. I guess I am just a little tired of whenever a different opinion is shared it is automatically wrong and evil. THAT is where the immaturity arises----not the fact that one may be jealous of cheerleaders--but in the fact that some ppl have to ALWAYS be right. I wonder which vice poisons a marriage quicker?---JMO on the matter and with that I am done with this riduclous thing.
Chevy_Gurl 11-26-2007, 06:28 PM I think it's fabulous that anyone who accepts the invitation to go do Morale Shows is fabulous. I know when my ex was over there he may not have been super interested but he went because it was a break from the everyday battles he faced over there... loneliness, depression, death, being shot at, always scared when an explosion went off, etc. He used those shows as his escape and I honestly do not know if he would have made it home if he didn't get those 'mental breaks'.
Considering the USO does this off donations is absolutely amazing. I donate to the USO every chance I get and when I use their services, especially at the airports.
If someone doesn't like the females that go there, then tell your SO to not go, sit it out and save the "frustration"
Donna 11-26-2007, 06:30 PM nevermind.....

Like i said in my other post, my best friend is a colts cheerleader. How she is able to spend her time raising money for charity, visit injured soldiers reutrning from iraq, practice, make the games AND hold a career is that she WORKS HER BUTT OFF and never has time for herself!!!!!! She is dedicated to having a voice and being able to help and i guarantee she donates more time and energy to good causes than most people i have ever met. She holds down a wonderful career (she has to making $55 a game)...its not something you do to just "shake your pom poms" its something you do to be able to have a voice, make a difference, and achieve your own personal dreams.

it just seems that ppl think the cheerleaders have it so together to have full careers and be able to shake pom poms...I was just wondering why couldn't have the secret to that wonder. More of just a wondering out loud thing that anything.....sorry to have confused anyone.

I think its more they way some people are acting that is upsetting calling them names or thinking they are just airheads with nothing better to do. If you check out the team sites you can see that some are married, have kids, have a job. Shit if I looked that good and could actually dance my ass would be trying out for the DCC. why the hell not. The prestige you get from that is amazing.. but I digress.
no one ever said difference of opinion was wrong or evil, but some are just as passionate as others in defense of their point.

Dudette - I don't see anybody getting beat by anybody else. This is a debate. A discussion. People disagree with each other, as debates often go. Those of us that feel one way give our reasoning for feeling that way. Those of us that feel the opposite give our reasoning for feeling the opposite way. I don't think anyone is trying to change anyone elses mind - but I do think that you seem to be taking the number of supporters of USO tours personally, and for that reason I think it's a good idea for you to walk away from "this ridiculous thing". Agreeing to disagree is a wonderful thing, isnt' it? Your snarky comment about which vice poisons a marriage...that was just out of nowhere and IMO seems to be instigating - or attempting to. Contrary to popular belief, some men really can look at a beautiful woman without saying to themselves "Wow I think I need to do her."
Whatever. :dunno
Now I'm the one getting almost irritated enough to start taking things personally. :lol

:lol
:lmao did you just say Dudette??? have you been watching the bud light commercials?? :giggle
lisa0323 11-26-2007, 06:33 PM it just seems that ppl think the cheerleaders have it so together to have full careers and be able to shake pom poms...I was just wondering why couldn't have the secret to that wonder. More of just a wondering out loud thing that anything.....sorry to have confused anyone.
I watched a show on cheerleaders 9I think it was about the dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders), and the cheer leading isn't a fulltime thing, but something they do while working. I guess they practice in the evenings and then do the games and such on evenings/weekends and when they can have time off.
I'm sure it's a lot of hard work and dedication to be able to juggle both a career and the cheer leading, but they seemed to be able to do it fairly well.
From what I have seen, they are very good dancer, not just standing there and shaking pom poms. :)
Becca 11-26-2007, 06:34 PM :lmao did you just say Dudette??? have you been watching the bud light commercials?? :giggle
:lmao Yes I said dudette. I say that alot :rofl But I picked it up from my mom...not bud light commercials. SHE may have picked it up from bud light commercials though :lol
Rachael 11-26-2007, 06:35 PM What are your opinions of them?
Should they only be limited to non "sexual" types, ie concerts, comedy shows, movie releases. Should the women that are invited over not be allowed to dress in certain types of clothes?
Should the military not put money into tours like that and spend it on getting service members with their families more? Any other ideas?
I could care less who they have go out and perform....my thing is that at least someone is coming out there to raise the morale. If it's Jenna Jameson, so be it. Hubby can drool all he wants... :lol The chances of her even noticing him there is very slim :giggle

well we could go round round and round about this stuff. personally, i am not upset from anything that anyone has said. I wasn't trying to instiagte anything with anyone. we all have our beliefs and we all feel passionately about them. we are all in the same boat here. but as far as this site helping me, and I mean just me, it really hasn't. It has been more time consuming than anything and i think it needs to be cut out of my life now. I think I will just stick to the home support i am getting which means more to me than anything. This thread didn't make my mind up for me, just all the others where everyone downs everybody for not thinking the way they think. I hope this site does help more people but it is just not for me. i get more out of my family and friends here....as i said this is just for me to say and I don't care what anyone thinks about me for saying it...i am never returning to this site again.

I get it...and I get what you were saying before. Just because some are ok with it doesn't mean everyone has to feel the same way. It doesn't mean someone doesn't trust their husband or their relationship, it doesn't mean they are jealous, it doesn't mean they should have to feel badly for not liking it. People feel differently for different reasons and that should be ok.

Well, it really is too bad that SOS hasn't helped you at all, that's actually quite sad given that so many people here give and recieve support every day. But I do hope that you can find support somewhere else, there are many other military sites out there, and you did mention that you have home support. Truly, home support is our greatest blessing.
Oh, and Aundi - you got it - I'm busted...EVERY TIME I TRY TO LOOK COOL I GET CAUGHT!! :banghead :duh
:giggle
Seriously. I've had a baby and a half. I'll never give my husband the visual pleasure that an NFL cheerleader might be able to - but she'll never give him the love, faithfulness, SEX, or family that I have/will/can. Nuff said? He can look all he wants - heck I'll be drooling over Daughtry on the 14th. I do feel silly thinking anyone here might need convincing that I'm being honest about my feelings - but hey it's allll good, right? :lol
Loretta 11-26-2007, 07:12 PM Bye, Frenchie! :wink

Uh, everything you described, that's what debate is... If you don't like debate, I don't understand why you would frequent the debate board...
Nice knowing ya? :hi I wish you the best.
Brandi 11-26-2007, 07:18 PM Wow, two members gone in one day? :eek I think this might be a record. :ohno
This is a good lesson on why some people are cut out for the debates and some people aren't. If you are going to debate, you really do have to learn that a disagreement isn't a personal attack or unsupportive. It's just a debate, a disagreement, a difference of opinion, and the right to speak yours!
I'm always really sad to see anyone go but I hope you find the support you need from somewhere. (L)

Well, one of them asked to be banned... just go find the other thread about cheerleaders.
Wow, something about these cheerleaders causes some major friction around this place :lol
bain5511 11-26-2007, 07:22 PM I personally like the USO tours they send over to the troops. When DB was there, he had the opportunity to see all kinds of bands that he would never get to see here. I was envious. He said some were better than others, but it still gave them something to do where they could let loose. I know by the end of his deployment, DB was doing some very dumb things to keep himself from going crazy. One of the more tame things was shaving his name into his leg. They were literally going nuts over there, and I know that the USO tours helped suppress the craziness. I really don't care if he sees cheerleaders. He can look at them and drool all he wants. He wouldn't act on it. Heck, if I want to be jealous I need to worry about some girl in his unit. Supposedly she's pretty hot and more accessible than a cheerleader. ;)

Also... if he was going to cheat on you with one of these USO performers..don't you think he would have cheated on you with another woman on his ship/in his unit?

JudyB 11-26-2007, 07:35 PM Since before the United States entered World War II, the USO (United Service Organizations) has been the bridge between the American public and the U.S. military. In times of peace and war, the USO has consistently delivered its special brand of comfort, morale and recreational services to the military. The USO, a congressionally chartered, private, nonprofit organization, relies on the generosity of individuals and corporations to support USO activities.
Today, the USO delivers its programs and services at more than 130 locations around the world. In recent years, the USO opened centers in Kuwait, Qatar and Afghanistan to support service members participating in Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom, as well as centers in Vicenza, Italy, and at the Dallas/Fort Worth, Raleigh/Durham and Denver International Airports.
Military personnel and family members visited USO centers more than 5.3 million times last year. Services include free Internet and e-mail access, libraries and reading rooms, housing assistance, family crisis counseling, support groups, game rooms and nursery facilities.
The USO reaches out through:
Airport centers, welcoming weary military travelers with a place to rest and the ability to familiarize themselves with their new surroundings
Family and community centers, promoting intercultural understanding and orientation to unfamiliar locations
Mobile USOs, reaching out to troops in remote and sometimes unstable locations
USO celebrity entertainment tours bring volunteer celebrities to entertain, lift morale, and express the gratitude and support of the American people.
For 66 years, the USO's mission has remained the same. The USO will support U.S. troops and their families wherever they serve. Across the United States and around the world, the American military knows that the USO is there for them. By supporting the USO, Americans show their appreciation and express their gratitude to the men and women who defend us.

Having been to a USO sponsored concert here in DC for Veterans Day and seeing all that they gave and 2 different sponsors of the USO gave they can send whoever they please :yes. They are one organization who are truly out for the better good of ALL military personell and their families
Some names that are affiliated with the USO....Fisher House, Starr Foundation....just to name a couple
Trust me when I say they do more than just send people to cheer our troops, they do far more to support our military, active and retired and injured, along with all military families

That's the point I made in the other thread. Uh...hello people...there are women all over the boats/FOB/unit what have you. Real women, who might actually think of sleeping with a non-famous dude like one of our husbands :lol If you trust them on a regular basis, why freak over some cheerleaders that most likely won't get within 100ft of them?

Yep! I'd be more worried about the women that are there with them 24/7 than some cheerleaders that are there for a few hours with them.
USCGBoxerMom 11-26-2007, 08:08 PM Aww man she left because she can't handle a DEBATE?? Then she should not have been on the DEBATE board. LOL Sorry I was not all supportive and stuff to her needs. :P

Plus if some cheerleader wants my 35, bald, CG LT and his wierd habits and quirks, odd body hair and his needy Boxer dog I hope she knocks herself out, but she better remember that she will not only have him, but his two children and a very vendictive X-wife to deal with on a daily basis. my thoughts, very simply put: It's not like they're sending them hookers ;)

Green~Mammy 11-26-2007, 08:23 PM Instead of spending money on things like stars or artist going to see them, they should spend more on contact with family, communications, and keeping them alive! If those stars or artist want to help support the troops, they can spend their millions to go see them.
To them it is just another $$ maker in my opinion.
I agree it boosts morale far more to have contact with family then it does seeing some celeb or sports player. Honestly most of that stuff seems to be geared towards the guy's as well so it didn't do much for my morale while in the service.
Although to be fair the military doesn't pay the USO does, so really it would be more of getting the USO to do things that keep the families in better contact. They never did much for me morale wise while I was underway a celeb visit means more WORK since you have to do heavy duty cleaning of the spaces. In port I saw Hootie & the Blow Fish it was a USO concert held at Yokosuka Navy Base. So underway I don't want any celebs on board = more work in port it's all good.

Taressa 11-26-2007, 09:20 PM i think they are a good idea. anything can be construed as sexual.
i agree
i think that they are a great thing for lifting their morale, my DH is on smaller ships that don't get the attention the carrier gets, so i think that they should have to go all the ships in the strike group though, although it would be hard to get to subs. i don't know i think they are great and i can't imagine be stuck on a ship or in the desert with little to no entertainment. my DH's ship pretty much only gets sports center! and they do preform for the families and such, Kansas is coming to Hampton roads. the ny CSI guy came to great lakes once a year when we were there. it gives them something to really look forward to.i wish more entertainers would do it!
dotb182 11-26-2007, 09:22 PM i think they are a good idea. anything can be construed as sexual.

ScrawnyTauni 11-26-2007, 09:29 PM I hate to tell you this, but if you're husband is going to jerk off to Jessica Simpson on the boat, then he's gonna jerk off to her at home when you're not around. It makes no difference where he's at.
Also... if he was going to cheat on you with one of these USO performers..don't you think he would have cheated on you with another woman on his ship/in his unit?
If they're gonna cheat/look/whatever, they're gonna do it...no matter where they're at, no matter who is around. Give me a break.
Now, the real question is......who would jack off to Jessica Simpson......Hmmmmm:pukey

amandalaine 11-27-2007, 08:59 AM Somen of the "ladies" you think have less to do with their "careers" have you actually looked at a website for the cheerleaders? Do you realize they are more than just gilrs that shake a pom pom? They are Accountants, teachers, Data Analysis, Lawyers, Pre-Med students, dance instructors......they hold REAL careers on the side of their cheerleading.
That's so true. You're not allowed to be a Jaguars cheerleader unless you have a job or are in school. I think it has to be full time as well...I don't think you can get away with just part time. They only make like $50 a game.
The cheerleaders going over are almost pointless for my DH...He doesn't like the cheerleaders for our NFL team, and he wouldn't care if it was for a team he didn't like. He would go up to wherever they are to check things out and get away for a little bit, but he wouldn't really be impressed that they had cheerleaders out there. He'd rather see a band or something.

ITA with this. It doesnt bother me in the least. I think its great that they want to volnteer there own time to help make the service members forget about there troubles for awhile.
delilah 11-28-2007, 12:03 AM Aww man she left because she can't handle a DEBATE?? Then she should not have been on the DEBATE board. LOL Sorry I was not all supportive and stuff to her needs. :P
If my DH wants to oggle a cheerleader, more power to him, that just gives me freedom to ogggle the men I think are hot. There is nothing wrong with reading the menu, you just can't order. :hungry
Plus, after 14 years of marriage, I dare her to try....he's MY retirement plan, she can get her own. :hystericlaugh
Of course, I am totally joking. ;)

Jennifer 11-28-2007, 03:57 AM I wish more USO tours came, because they not only go to the ships, the sandbox, etc. they go to the OCONUS bases for the families. We get very few tours through here, but I did find out Chely Wright is coming next year and I am SO going!
gss1981 11-28-2007, 07:50 AM I think the morale booster is great for the troops over there.
I think its great they do this. My husband has met the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders and several celebrities. The crew gets excited and its great break from the monotony of everyday on the ship.
I dont get the women that give their SOs grief about it or complain about it. There are more things to worry about then celebrities or cheerleaders doing something good for our service people out there.
