That isnt a dead end one???? Anyone with experience in this department??

Well, Target is cutting hours BAD at our store, and over the next 2 weeks I am working 7 days....just 7 days out of 14 when I normally work 10. And I am not going to be trained for salesfloor or cashier until after the holidays which really sucks because I could use that money NOW due to the move early next year, we really need to start saving!

So well, I have been trying to get a new job and have had NO luck. I tried to apply at NFCU and they arent hiring for tellers, neither is First Future. So then I started looking at the school districts and they are hiring, but I have to get my CPR and First Aid certification before I can even apply and I'm not entirely sure on how to go about that or when I would even be able to.

Then I asked my mom about where she works (its a family friends dental office...very small) but since she started working there, they are covered..so now I am all out of options. My mom's old boss was supposed to move back her before October, but decided to wait until next fall to do it, so the job I THOUGHT I had in the bag with her I obviously dont have anymore. :sigh This sucks..

hmm that's weird about Target cutting back hours... ESPECIALLY this time of year. I worked there seasonally and was full-time. :puzz

Have you tried looking on Craigslist? Are there any malls nearby? Tons of people are hiring seasonal workers this time of year.

Good luck!!!!!!! :)

See I dont want just seasonal, and I would prefer not to work in a mall or anything with limited promotional opportunities. Yeah I thought them cutting back hours right now was rediculous, but even the TL's arent getting 40hrs a week! And operators usually average about 24hrs a week (I was getting over 30) But now I am getting like 12hrs...it sucks! I dont think its every Target though, cuz when I spoke to the El Cajon store, they had everyone pretty much full time through to January (I was thinking about transfering) so I think our HR screwed up and over hired, or our STL doesnt now what he is doing (which I wouldnt doubt lol). So who knows what is going on...all I know is that store has some problems!

california has a worksource type of website. I used to use it a lot when I was there. let me do some digging and see if I can find it for you. The best thing to do is basically blanket your resume anywhere you would be willing to work. You will get a lot of no's before you get a yes

Have you tried temp agencies? They are a great way to get your foot in the door. When it comes down to it, you just have to apply, apply and apply - it may take sending out 50 resumes or filling out 50 applications to get 5 calls but those are 5 calls you wouldn't have gotten otherwise. Register with your local employment agency (state) and all the temp agencies in the area, make a habit of reading the paper EVERY day (some jobs are posted very short times and fill quickly - the sooner you get your name in the hat the better) and just keep at it. Remember, when looking at listings think outside of the box. Put together a resume that REALLY sells you and remember to include a cover letter that convinces them they NEED you for the job in question (tailor it to each application). Many employment/temp agencies will help you re-work your resume AND offer training/tutorials that will help you gain any skills you might be lacking in order to increase the jobs you can be looking at.
Good luck - it is an incredibly frustrating process.

Thanks! I have looked into a couple of temp agencies, but they all wanted to place me really far away like carlsbad and del mar and orange county. There was nothing available in east county or much of this side of san diego county at the time. I am still on file with the agencies, I just havent been called since september :sigh I think I am going to look into some more temp places though. I was really hoping for a job at the dental office, but I guess business had blumeted and they dont need anymore staff. Even my mom isnt working a full week..so oh well on that idea.

You can get your CPR and First Aid thru your local red cross office. It's usually around $65 and a 1 day class.

I'm sorry you're having a rough time. Is there anything like a call center around you? I know when we first moved down here, I started out doing that. You can get promoted to where you aren't taking the calls. It sucks, but, it's normally decent pay. Are you on base? Maybe check to see if there is anywhere that is hiring on base. If I can think of anything else, I'll post it for you.

I just found a job after a month and a half of looking. I applied to so many I lost count and was forgetting where I was applying to. I just kept sending my resume out, kept trying every place I could. I searched all the job boards for my background (tech) and called recruiters, and finally a few opportunities opened up for me, and I took one of them. So keep looking, something will come up. Just keep applying for everything, don't give up.

I should also say apply for anything you are halfway qualified for. You never know they might be willing to take the chance on you. :D
