OK so DB has been in Iraq for 5 months now (I am sooo happy I can say that...well on the 30th) and I have been sending a carepackage pretty much everyother week. I have had fun finding silly, cute, crazy stuff to send. BUT ya know how you always need to fill it up so the stuff doesn't shake all around. Well I always send some cookies, or brownies, or candy or some other unhealthy snacks to "pad it" well DB said he threw out all his sweets and he is going on a diet and seriously working out. ummmmm OK now I need HEALTHY snack alternatives to send....ideas??

(I already send protien bars and tuna regularly. He is in a remote area so there is no real mess hall so any food ideas will work)

i can't send sweets either!! :sadeyes :lmao

peanuts, trail mix (i found one i liked at target and copied all the ingredients down and made my own! :giggle), dried fruit, beef jerky, they have tons of 100 calorie packs now of different cookies and sweets (if you have to!!).

The 100 calorie packs are pretty yummy. They have Oreos, Chips Ahoy, Chex Mix, and I think some others.

Beef Jerky is a good idea too.

Raw nuts, such as almonds, are high in good protein. Sometimes I roast them and spice them up ( http://www.recipezaar.com/7332 ) Dried fruit, make sure you get it at health food store so it hasn't been overly sweetened. If I have a total baking need I send him homemade muffins. I am a cooking light gal so I usually get recipes from there ( i don't recommend Bran for obvious reasons) I don't have a fancy vacuum sealer but I did just get that one from Reynolds at it works GREAT! I just tape up the hole afterwards to ensure no leakage when I send to him ( http://www.alcoa.com/reynoldskitchens/handi_vac/en/home.asp?swf=demo )

my man is on the no sweats thing to but I am still making vanilla fudge for him for Christmas if he throws it out I will seriously kick his butt ;)

ha yep i got that "rule" too even before he left. Ive sent granola bars, the 100 calorie packs, fruit trail mix, goldfish (they actually arent bad for you), and alot of the other stuff the girls mentioned. Also you can bake cookies "healthy" by using alternate ingredients. I had some oatmeal rasin ones made with apple sauce and stuff like that...look up recipies, that way you can still send cookies but they arent "bad"!
