I got this email from my ombudsman and I wanted to pass it along to you. I can email you the accompanying attachments if you are indeed interested. There is a meeting tomorrow night from 6-8pm at Jackson Park Community Center.
To all my Commands,
It has been an experience being the POC on a Pilot Program that was developed between DOD and DOL. I know there have been rumors about money being available for education for military spouses and I finally have some answers. I am attaching the releases that Washington DC has designed as well as inviting your Command and any interested Spouses to come to the official kick off of the program at Captain Tanaka's Town Meeting, Wednesday, 11/28/07 from 1800-2000 at Jackson Park Community Center.
The Pilot Program is site specific to Naval Base Kitsap. We have had that defined as Bangor, Bremerton, Keyport, Indian Island, Naval Hospital Bremerton and the Marine Unit assigned here. The Coast Guard are not DOD and fall under Homeland Security so are not eligible at this time.
We will hopefully have all of the details worked out since Washington State and DOL are still negotiating. The goal is to help Spouses enter an educational program by January '08.
I know this will interest your Command and Crew so I would ask that you send a representative to the meeting to take information back to your leadership team.
