I am just wondering if there is a difference between shipping a package in one of the post office boxes vs. a box from some random place (ex. walmart)

I usually ship my packages with the flat rate post office boxes, but my xmas package will be way too big to put into a box from usps. I am just wondering if i mail it with a plain old box from walmart will it maybe take longer to get there???

ahh i know this is a stupid question- it's just the flat rate boxes say "PRIORITY MAIL" ALL OVER them, and this box doesnt have anything:(:(


i'm just worried about his stuff getting there lol.

When take the box to the post office if you do priority mail they'll put tape on the box that says priority mail, juts make sure you mark out any labels on the box if it has any :)

it might cost more than you are used to. You can use priority tape on them and it will go priority, but you have to pay the priority price so make sure you ask how much that is. postage can get pricey without the flat rate boxes, so you might want to see how many flat rate boxes it would take to send it if that is cheaper than the postage on the big box.

i honestly have no clue...i just got a bigger priority mail box from the post office...it wasn't a flat rate box but it still only cost $10...i hope it all works out for ya

When they ship stuff over things can take longer becuase they fill the planes so boxes will sit there until the plane is filled. It will cost more becuase it goes by weight. All the priority box is giving you is a flat rate fee

that is only if you use the flat rate box. if you just use a regular box and put it as priority then you pay the rate of postage plus priority postage. they push using smaller boxes because those can be placed in planes and things easier than this big box. sometimes a box will just sit until there is room for it in a transport. in a smaller box you don't have to wait as long since they are small.

This is correct, the PO on base told me that it is better to send 2 seperate smaller boxes verses 1 huge box, plus she told me at this time of year the priority flat rate boxes will get to Miami/NY military CPO faster but then once it gets into the military planes/airports it can sit anywhere. I sent my DH his christmas box November 13th and it still has not gotten to him and I paid priority and it was in a regular box I bought from Walmart.

I have used both and they get there in about the same amount of time. Once I shipped 2 boxes the same size but I insured one and it got there a few days ahead. It really doesn't matter what box you use. I spend about 9 or 10 on the flat rate box and about 18 on a box 2x the size and both times it was filled with canned goods like Monster, Chili etc. So they were VERY heavy boxes.

Yes ,basically I was just telling her what the postal clerk told me, that pirority will get it to the first destination alot quicker then parcel at this time of year, otheriwise parcel could take forever considering the holidays.

I juat sent a very large box...it was almost over the 108 inches that is the max you can allow. It had a memory foam matress pad in it. DB got it in the same time frame as every other box I sent. So, who knows.

I think the ones that are stationed " marines, army etc" get them on a regualr basis, I think it is the fact that these ships never stay put and my DH is on a small ship so they have to wait for the carrier to get it first then a helo brings it to them etc, but I have never had it take this freaking long, ugggg

Yet I have sent out like a small envelope and had it take WAY longer then a small box and I have had larger boxes get there quicker then smaller boxes...its weird!:dunno
