What is Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University (FPU) all about?

In a nutshell, it's learning how to control your money, so it no longer controls you. You tell your money what to do, instead of it telling you what to do.
It's making a budget, saving money, learning how to invest, getting out of debt, and having fun
based on the teachings of Dave Ramsey.
It is a 13 week series of classes (one per week) focusing on BABY STEPS and the basic steps included are:

Baby Steps

1) Sock away $1000 in an emergency fund. This is for EMERGENCIES. Christmas is not an emergency. Here is a news flash - it will be in December this year.

2) Pay off your debt. List them all, smallest dollar amount to largest. Pay minimums on everything except the smallest. Throw everything you can at it. Yep, the smallest. Not the highest interest rate.

3) Fully fund your emergency fund. This should be 3-6 months of expenses. NOT income.

4) 15% of your income into retirement funds - Roth IRA or 401(k) or both.

5) Start saving for education for the kids.

6) Pay down your mortgage early.

7) Build wealth, invest, give!.

The classes are most often hosted at churches, but can also be found in businesses, community centers, military bases and many other places.

The classes are not free; you must purchase an "FPU kit" containing books, tapes and a workbook. The price varies based on where you take the class, but runs anywhere from $90 - $129. Only one kit is required per family, so you and your kids could attend with only one kit. You can also take the class as often as you like.
FPU is a life-changing class that will definitely be worth the investment. In fact, it was the best investment my husband and I ever made. It has given me the ability to have power over my money instead of my money having power over me.

if you do it online, do you have to keep paying the $99?

I dont think so...I think it is a one time fee and when you graduate you get a certificate.

I love the class. We just had the buyer beware class yesterday. Each week is really interesting and Dave Ramsey is a funny guy. He keeps your attention during the whole time. Before we started the class we could not understand how we made money but never had enough for the bills. Now that we are on a strict budget is it actually easier on us. We know where EVERY penny goes and I actually get excited when we get paid because I know that every bill is paid for and there are no worries.
