Okay, so DB is going to a 16-week a-school after he graduates boot camp, and if all works out, then as soon as he's done a-school, I'll be returning from my study abroad. So, what I was wondering is:

do people usually get some leave after a-school to go home and see their families before they are deployed? Or no?

:thanks:pray:pray:pray:pray

Whether they get leave or not depends on what is going on. My guess is that it would depend on when he has to check in at his duty station and what they have going on at that time. Also, just because he will be done with school and going on to his duty station doesn't mean he will deploy right then. If his ship or squadron is scheduled to deploy then they will but if not then he won't either. So if you're back in the states you could go see him if he can't get leave. Not sure if that is possible but throwing it out there for ya. :) Good Luck.

i wouldn't count on him getting leave but its a good possiblity he will my DH's ship was deployed when he graduated A school, he got 2 or 3 weeks of leave then was flown out to the ship. prepare for him not to though and hope he does. that is all you can do. he will have a report no later than date on his orders.

My fiance went from A school (hospital corps in Great Lakes, IL) to back home for a week of leave then to his next training. His next training hadn't started yet so he had some time to take. Has he recieved orders yet?

Na, haha, he's still at boot camp. I'm just a big planner, so I like to have all my ducklings in a row way beforehand. He's the opposite, so he'll be fine, I'll just be here flippin out by myself! Or with you guys. We're all in it together!!!

yeah well in the military your ducks get squashed sometimes or kicked back to the pond. rule of thumb you can't count on anything till it's in writing ( even then its in pencil) or B he is standing in front of you.

Haha, I'm starting to learn that more and more. Just gonna have to learn to be flexible! Thanks for the excellent metaphor.

it's true, flexibility is the key, you can still plan. You just have to be smart and flexible in your planning. Know that things can and more than likely will change about 100 times before it is right back where it started.

here is a term you will hear a lot with the navy at least. cast in jello meaning it can change and it often does. its a huge adjustment i am a planner too and it really makes me insane sometimes to have to wait for the last minute to plan anything!! and hurry up and wait. you have to get paperwork in on time and get it put together and you don't find out the status for a while later. that drives me crazy but you will learn to adapt i am sure.. hugs i hope it works out for you guys and you can see each other.

:rofl I did the same thing when Mike was in bootcamp a little over 2 years ago. I was planning like every second, without even knowing if he'd be home! I still do it with his upcoming deployment. I'm a planner, as it seems you as as well. So I completely understand where you are coming from. How far along in boot is he?

I'd recommend going on myspace and finding other girls with SO's in your SO's division. It's such a big help! I would talk to others who were going through the same thing daily, it was really helpful. Also have you looked at the Navy.com message board for recruit training? those are really helpful too!
