View Full Version : sickness in boot camp
jeepgirl 12-02-2007, 09:11 PM Ok ladies, need some help, from the experienced ones....this may be TMI, My DB called today, he is not feeling well, constipation, not gone in 7 days...not allowed to go to medics? what do you do....I am concerened...I didnt have advice for him....somethings not right, he says he cant enough to eat...always hungry....but what goes has to come out...
leftover 12-02-2007, 09:13 PM He needs to drink a ton of water.. Maybe he can find something in the chow line that has high fiber, like bananas or oatmeal. :shrug
Lots of water, apple juice, fresh fruit. Stay away from dairy. He's always hungry because he's burning alot of calories...LOTS of water.
Loretta 12-02-2007, 11:07 PM It happens to everyone. They won't let him go to the sick call because it WILL get better. His body isn't used to what they're feeding him and all the exercise.
He'll be ok, promise! :hugs
Bryanna 12-02-2007, 11:08 PM what they said.
fiber and water are the most important things for him right now.

ArmyWifewith3 12-03-2007, 03:17 AM Hmm... I wonder if that's why DH was hoping they'd have bananas for lunch? Actually, he was probably low on potassium.
But, yes. As my doctor told me, "As a society, we are constantly dehydrated." Oh! Can I stand up and wave my hand as one of those?! :) She recommended that I add more water to my coffee and make it weaker because I can't stand the "taste" of water... Or is that the lack of taste? I know when I'm really dehydrated really bad because then I like water.
Anyway! Just remember that we eat incredibly unhealthy and don't drink enough non-caffeinated beverages. At BCT, they take away ALL the unhealthy stuff and I have no doubt that it throws their bodies for a loop. I know I'd just about die if they took away what I normally eat. :D
Traci 12-03-2007, 05:18 AM My husband was an RDC and he was always telling them lots of water. It's a common problem.

I know when DH was in basic they had them wear hydration beads, and they checked to make sure they went through the whole strand(was = to 20 glasses of water) every day. That was in the summer time, though. I do know they keep them as full of liquids as possible, though.
He should be fine!:hugs
wife-n-mommy 12-04-2007, 07:37 AM Sounds like he needs to drink more water...like he's dehydrated. Also...my husband said when he was in basic they could go to the shoppett once every week or so for like 15-20 mins to get "essentials". Most shoppetts have a little "medicines" section. Maybe he could look for like some stool softeners or something. My husband said he would get advil every time he went and some vitamin water. He said as long as you bought it and took it right then you were alright, you just couldn't leave the store with anything other than razors, shaving cream, extra uniform shirts...that kind of thing. My husband is army though and was at benning...not sure how it is anywhere else.

:agree..thats what i was thinking...just tell him to get it then and take it after he pays for it.
jamie~lynn 12-04-2007, 12:30 PM I have been through basic training, and i can tell you that no one in my training flight..like 50 girls..went #2 for the first like 3-4 weeks. It is a very common problem. Tell him to definelty try to get lots of fiber in with every meal. I hope he is able to go soon. I definetly know what he is going through!
And yes we all discussed this problem in basic..LOL
ijustdidit2012 12-06-2007, 02:27 PM Mine said he didnt go for 3 Weeks!!! he said he just didnt eat alot and they worked him out alot it must be a weird diet there
NavyWife410 12-11-2007, 01:18 PM When i went through Navy basic, it was hard to drink a lot of water, to me anyways, We had to drink out of canteens and it tasted terrible to me, so i was dehydrated a lot :duh Dumb on my part but i couldnt force myself to drink that nasty water :grumpy
Its also a pretty stressful situation when you first get there, i kind of went through a period of omg what did i get myself into :confuzzle so that could be a reason hes not going, hes not comfortable there yet :suspect , and kind of forgot to go..when he had to? i guess i dunno a lot of us ran into that as a problem too :) :dunno
