I have to write my own reference letter from my last Boss and Supervisor. (I wrote everything for them when I worked there anyway.)

It's really hard to write about yourself though, kwim?

So... does this sound like I wrote it myself? Is it overbearing? Detailed enough?

Any feedback is appreciated.

Here is what I wrote for my supervisor:

December 3, 2007

To Whom It May Concern:

I highly recommend Kristen ***** as a candidate for employment. Kristen was employed by ******* from November 2004 through April 2007, and during that time she was consistently given more and more responsibility, as she continued to excel.

Initially, Kristen was an Administrative Assistant, and as she continued to prove herself, she then became my assistant. In this role, she was responsible for a multitude of tasks answering to me, the Sales and Marketing Manager, and the President of the company. She handled my administrative tasks, created marketing materials, performed research and analysis, composed and reviewed correspondence, and completed every task I asked of her. She was always dependable, responsible, honest, and determined. She gave 110% on every project, and quickly became a resource of knowledge for her co-workers.

Kristen took on many tasks independently, volunteered in areas that needed assistance, needed very little direction, and always followed through. Many people in our office counted on her, and she was a valuable team member.

Some of her more exceptional accomplishments were extremely advantageous to our company. Most notable was the creation and implementation of a system to analyze many factors of each individual job including costs, profit, discrepancies, and employee problems. Her research and analysis brought to light several monetary issues, which indirectly saved us over $30,000 in the first year of using her system, and directly saved much more money, time, and energy.

Our clients often wrote or called to recognize Kristen’s excellent customer service skills, and to let us know how much they appreciated her. She was an excellent communicator, both orally and in her written correspondence. As any manager knows, customer service is essential to a successful business, and Kristen consistently went above and beyond to keep our clients happy.

I am completely confident that Kristen would be an essential asset to any office. She has my highest recommendation for employment. If you have any further questions about her qualifications or her background, please do not hesitate to call me directly.

Sincerely,

******, Project Manager

I think it portrays you as the ideal employee for a company. You focused on your strong points and attention to details. Employers like that.

It reads smoothly and I think they will like the fact that you figured out how to save the prior company some money.

Good luck!

Ok, good. I am usually really relaxed about writing, but when it comes to writing about me, it gets a LOT more difficult. And I second guess everything I say.

I'm lucky though that they both told me to write it myself, because if they wrote it, it would just be a three line paragraph full of typos! :giggle They are so busy and not used to having to do that stuff themselves.
